Can anyone recommend a easy access savings account (60 days or less) that is easy to setup and transfer money in? the Ulster Bank account seems like hard work in regards to setting up and access.

egg, northern Rock, bradford & Bingley (Santander), Coventry BS all ok providing you have a current account elsewhere or with them. Yorkshire BS is also relatively easy to setup but with a lower rate.

    Hello all,
I have literally just opened the Citibank account and it was painful! Had to go through to a call centre where the chap seemed to have great difficulty understanding me and now have stumbled on to this thread and feel a bit concerned! I guess it is the worry of having given them my account details and sort code, has anyone used them before and have anything a bit less negative to say to put my mind at rest or is it all pretty awful? Thanks
  • Hi,

i opened an account with them sometime ago,i have sent them three items of post, two cheques, they have all gone astray, too much hard work.

You are not the only person on this forum who has had difficulties with Citibank over this account - if you search, you'll find numerous threads from the past few weeks with similar complaints to yours.

Up at the top, in terms of instant access are...

ING - 3.2% (but not covered under the FSCS, they have a Dutch equivalent instead)
    Sainsbury's - 3.2% but only three withdrawals
AA - 3.15% (the account is operated by Birmingham Midshires, who seem to have a very good service reputation, based on what I've read on here)

I plan on opening the AA account in a couple of weeks, when my current interest rate finishes.

I tried to open a Citibank account for my mum but wasn't sure whether the linked account was the ONLY way of transferring money in and out so I rang them to ask. I just got a recording saying new applications were very busy and to use the website.

As a result of that I decided to check these forums to see what people said about Citibank... glad I did!!

I have just opened an AA account instead for my mum - and as she has over £50K to save she is getting the same rate (3.3%) as Citibank anyway.

However, I have had previous bad experience with Birmingham Midshires (they 'lost' £1500 of my money for several weeks) but took the plunge deciding they were a better option than Citibank and hoping things have improved since I was last with them.

One downside seems to be that you can't make electronic payments in for 10 days.
  • Just tried to invest £30000 with ns&i fixed rate for 1yr and was told it,s been withdrawn so have 2 3 and 4yr so look somewhere else to put your money. withdrawn 26 oct

The 3 year is also still available, but the rate is a bit below the market leaders.
