We live in France, but we wish to keep some savings in sterling. It's becoming increasingly harder to do so. Pretty much every bank / BS now will insist that you are UK resident; there doesnt seem to be any legal reason for this, just a fashion. For example I opened an account with a BS 6 months ago, now my missus wanted to follow me (rare but anyway), but they have changed their policy so she cannot.
Does anybody have an explanation?

The result is you are forced into offshore savings with limited guarantees and poorer rates. Anybody got any tips?0 -
I have a US account in Wells Fargo in $. I opened this when I was in the US last year and they did it in the spot, no messing about. They are not bothered about being UK residents. It is covered by US guarantee. I transferred £ to it by Xe .com who seem very efficient. This is so I have $ when I visit my son in the US, and the exchange rate is stable for me- well known util the deposit runs out.0

Birmingham Midshires Telephone extra account currently pays 3.15% and you can ask for monthly interest, but you have to operate it over the phone.
A&L also gives you 3.15% currently but interest is paid yearly on the 1st of October. However, I think that if you close it before a year is up you should get the interest paid upon closure (You'll have to check small print in the T&Cs).
Yes but their security to set up this blessed account is so fierce i can't get my money in. They sent me a security tag that didn't work ( I think it expired in 3 weeks because I didn't use it at once) they had the wrong maiden name for my mum, and the password WHICH I HAD WRITTEN DOWN they said was wrong... so I don't think i'll be able to get it out either. The AA is paying 3.5% which is better (BA is 3.15%).0 -
Regarding Ulster Bank account. On MSE It stated that the minimum deposit was £10,000. Yet on Ulster website, it mentions a figure of 15,000. Who is right?, or is this Euros in ireland?.
I think you will find Ulster is part of the UK and the currency is indeed £££
As for the 10k / 15k point I know not0 -
