Re HSBC Online Bonus saver account 3.00%

I have just opened a new 3.00% HSBC bonus saver and sent a nominal amount via an existing HSBC savings account. However I switched my HSBC current account a few months ago and now I have no payees in my HSBC online accounts.

Furthermore, I cannot set up a new payee from an HSBC savings account and therefore cannot transfer any money out of HSBC.

It looks like my only option is to open a new HSBC current account.

Just thought I would share this with others thinking of opening this savings account.
You can phone and ask them to setup a payee I also sent a nominal amount. But might a good idea to take out another current account to get there Regular Saver Account at 5%
Maybe create a dummy current account first to use for a First Direct switch offer (if elegible) and open the HSBC current account after that went through. If you open the HSBC current account first I believe you waive your elegibility for the switch offer. On the other side, the bonus saver is only 3% and you can only really withdraw on the 1st of each month to avaoid wasting a full month of interest payment (drops to 0.65%). No longer an attractive product and there is so much more out there. Only the reg saver makes sense really.

For Kroo to pop up out of seemingly nowhere (comparatively) and offer the highest interest rate for unlimited instant access since 2012, and on a current account no less...

    Where have you read this?

I didn't. This evening's Martin Lewis Money Show (timestamp 09:32) was all about savings and interest rates.

"That's actually the best, open to all, easy access savings with unlimited withdrawals we've seen since 2012."

    He's mistaken
Totally depends how he defines it. He is correct that there hasn't been any other announcement of a 3% current account for up to £85k since 2012.
Which is different to what @AmityNeon and Martin have defined it as if the above quote is accurate.
  • Kroo again - I signed up yesterday with (little) hassle. My TopCashback account shows 2 pending entries, one for zero the other £20.

TC also states that a £50 "minimum investment" into Kroo is required. Was that requirement there yesterday and I just missed it? Do I need to fund Kroo to get the cashback?

It's an odd choice of wording because this is more of a deposit into a current account as opposed to an investment in a product.

I'm sure it was £20 yesterday. I was approved yesterday morning and stuck some money in, but have an orange £0.00 pending so something hasn't worked for me. I'll chuck another £30 in and see what happens
  • How long did people wait for Kroo approval?

Unless my memory has failed completely I don't believe that there was mention of a funding requirement in the TC offer yesterday. There was mention of the cashback amount for opening the account - £20.

I stuck a tenner in the Kroo account yesterday, just to check it was open and functioning. I've got a couple of entries in TC (zero and £20, both pending). Doesn't look like there's a correlation between adding cash and getting TC credits.

I'll put it down to the fact they are getting mobbed by new applicants at the moment. Might just top-up to £50 just in case.

About 10 minutes - but this was yesterday morning pre MSE newsletter.

Feel free to personally correct him on Twitter. I'm sure he'll advise his researchers not to feed him misinformation next time.

He wasn't fed with misinformation. The last time a 3% current account, open to all, with interest on up to £85k was announced was in 2012.
