Amazon prime membership compulsory?

When completing a recent order on Amazon I was disgusted to see that Amazon Prime had been added............WITHOUT MY CONSENT...........and it then is up to me, to cancel within one month if I don't want to pay.
Can this be right? Surely, signing up to Prime should be optional and should require an action by the purchaser - NOT a COMPULSORY add-on to an order?

What were you trying to order - I've never seen a compulsory prime membership anywhere apart from to get quicker shipping or cheaper items - but even then you can still have the slower shipping or pay slightly more if you want to.0

You've clicked on an offer and missed the smaller print that says 'no thank you'. As you're on a free month simply sign into your account and cancel it. It'll turn off at the end of the month so that you get full usage out of it.1

I'm willing to bet it was with your consent but you failed to read what you were signing up to.1

As above, I don't think they've made it compulsory, just heavily suggested.0

Did you complete the transaction quickly? There is a big yellow button that says yes to Prime, there is a smaller button that says "no thank you" when you're at the shipping options page. I bet all my money that you did sign up, but you didn't read what you were pressing. It's easy to do, you just have to read everything carefully.1

Having this instant placed an order their is no compulsory Prime in the delivery options .
Never seen compulsory over many orders .
What i have seen is identical posts where user has made a mistake .
Anyway once item delivered cancel Prime within 14 days and should be no charge.1 -

They can cancel Prime immediately with no problems. I've used a 7 day offer recently, put the order in and immediately cancelled the Prime and still ordered something else within the 7 day period.
I'm afraid to check how many orders I've put in over the years...0 -
You can get products on Amazon which are only available to Prime customers, is it possible you've purchased such a product? It's normally pretty obvious however.0

I ordered a micro SD card and a Metal Castor Slider Rollers Trolley. At no time was I aware of being offered Amazon Prime and asked to tick a box to confirm that I wanted it.
When it came to paying for my order, I was told it had been included!!!! As I wanted the order to come through asap and despite going back a number of pages, I couldn't find any options to say I didn't want it, so I completed the order. I then went back onto Amazon to delete it.
I've now taken delivery of the order and one item needs to be returned - so I went back onto Amazon and was told I was still a member of Amazon Prime!!0 -
You'll stay a member until your free trial runs out.
To check got to Your Account, click the Prime box (view benefits and payment settings) and it will give you all the details down the left side of the page.
Edit, so you knew it was included before you completed the order and went ahead anyway? So you had a choice and it was WITH YOUR CONSENT?1
