Contrary to popular belief this is not the ‘only spend the bare minimum on everything’ forum. You chose to stick your neck out and criticise spending a large sum on a kettle. Why? Because you don’t personally see the value of that?
It was just a passing comment from a thread that I read a few days prior. No need to get upset over it though. I don't speak on behalf of the forum.0 -

I don't see a problem with criticising what people spend on items. The debt free wannabee forum wouldn't be very helpful if nobody pointed out where people were spending too much on certain things when they posted an SOA.
My kettle cost £120 and i'm happy for anyone to criticise the cost of it because i know why i wanted it and decided it was worth it.
If i did buy something and someone thought i wasted money i would rather hear why they think that than them keeping quiet to be "nice".0 -

The lady was asking for help on a fault with her kettle. She was not asking for help with debt or complainign how poor she is because she spent a high amount on a kettle.
Its irrelevant. I pointed out that someone complaining about it also spent money on things that other people may find unnecessary. Would it be helpful for me to go around the forum pointing out where I think people have wasted their money on stuff? No, because 1. who am I to tell anyone how to spend their money? andI guarantee everyones house has something in it they didnt need or spent too much on. Its no ones business UNLESS they are asking for advice on budgetting.

I'd suggest discussion boards are not for you.0 -

There is a discussion forum just for stuff like this. There is also various home sections for discussions on getting bang for your buck on appliances etc.
This is not the place for criticising someones spending (when it wasnt even her who bought it!) Imagine if your friend bought you a lovely gift and all people did was slag off how ridiculous it was for someone to spend that much?0 -

I'm not quite sure why you're getting so upset. Are you the friend that bought the kettle?0 -

It's a discussion forum so in a discussion you don't just answer the specific questions that people put to you.
You must be very strange to talk to in real life if you you stick to one very specific subject when chatting and then scold people who change the subject slightly. :rotfl:
I see no problem at all in the comment made:Potbellypig wrote: »I'm still amazed people pay £150 for kettles, to be honest.
It's relevant to the topic and it's their opinion that £150 is too much for a kettle and they are entitled share their opinion.
Plus this is a money saving forum so discussing how much people spend on things is very relevant and should never be out of bounds.0 -

Okay.
Congratulations OP for being so affluent and having such a beautiful kettle, something some people can only dream of. Your friends are obviously wealthy and affluent too, well done on really making a go of your life and your finances, and I bet your kitchen looks gorgeous.
Must be lovely to be able to spend £150 on a kettle and not worry about it :j0 -

That almost sounds like your being sarcastic but i'm sure you didn't intend that :rotfl:0 -
