Aside from the obvious action of taking a photograph of the meter on the day I move in, has anyone got any advice on what my next steps should be when I inevitably have to deal with Symbio?
Get set up asap and if you can submit another meter reading on the last day of the month, 31st, as well as the opening read on the 27th.  Always submit a meter read on the last day of the month to get an accurate bill of used electric (and a bill for the wild overestimation of next months use).

Someone is coming tomorrow to fit a smart meter on behalf of Symbio.  I was going to have to get one eventually, so I thought I would just agree. I think I will feel a bit redundant as I give regular meter readings.
Will be interesting to see how you get on. Let us know.
Hi.  Was fine, Got a little display to sit in the hall and fella was nice enough.  He told me to take note of reading on the old meter.  I said you need to be a Phillidelphia Lawyer to work out their bills but he said everyone he speaks to about Symbio said they are very good.  I said if good means cheap then I suppose so.  Not looking forward to the next bill because the meter has been swapped but will see what happens.

I called and they will not reduce the dd.  So I can either pay the dd, switch and wait for them to return the excess (it will be several £00s).  Or I can cancel the dd, switch and wait for them to return the smaller excess (there will still be one).  Is there any danger they could make things difficult for me to switch if I cancel the dd, even though I'll still be in credit?  I'm not desperate for the cash, just want things to go smoothly.  Any thoughts?
If you are massively in credit and considering switching out you should definitely cancel your direct debit before the next "payment" goes through. They can't really complain because there is plenty of credit in your account to pay the next bill and they can't block your switch as your account is in massive excess. It may take some time for your credit to be paid back, according to some posters on here, so it's better not to make it too high.

Ideally you should have been proactive earlier and got them  to reduce your direct debit amounts when you saw your credit was going into the hundreds. Their automatic response is always no, but if you insist and state how much credit is on your account they will do it.

    Good luck

I had an OK year with Symbio, no issues, good price.  I tried to switch to one of their cheaper tariffs but they wouldn't allow it (I've spoken to them and it's a definite no) and they have automatically moved me to a variable tariff. Fair enough; so I'm going to switch.
Sorry, this is not answering your question, but is the moral that you should start to look for a new deal as soon as you can leave the old one without penalty?  Which (I think) is 49 days before the expiration date.
My fixed deal with Symbio ends 31 July.  I 'switched' to Symbio on 29 June, they confirmed my new tariff and set up the dd on 4 July.  I thought (hoped really) that was enough.  But they ignored all this and switched me to their automatic renewal tariff anyway and emailed me (today) with the new dd.  I phoned and they wouldn't let me have the tariff I switched to nor wold they reduce my dd.  I sort of expected them to do this so I'm not too disappointed.

How do their renewal tariffs compare with their ones for new customers?

I had a Secure SMETS2 meter fitted by them at the end of June.  The IHD still says "Not commissioned".  I've tried contacting them, but so far no reply.

I will have to try to give them my monthly reading manually, as the website will not let me enter a value less than last month's reading.  It also still shows my old meter serial number.

My house sale completes on Tuesday and I'm leaving these clowns. I called up and they want me to email them the buyers names and email address. What a load of rubbish. All they need is my final meter reading and a photo. It's up to the buyers to register with them, not my issue.

Hi.  Sorry to hear that.  My fitter would not leave the flat until someone read his whatsapp message.  He took pictures of the meter and my display seems to be working fine.  I put a reading through today from the old meter but god knows what my bill will be like.  Hope you get it sorted.

Don't switch to these.  This thread seems to be full of people who can't stand them but will bore us all with all that's wrong with this Symbio.  Yes, that's right, bore us all, but they won't switch away so that's why we are bored of it.  I waited 3 months for refund and during this, got told £10 only for late refund.  Then got told they are changing banks.  Then thru Energy Ombus he can get £30.  The rules say £60, what it hard to understand about these rules please Symbio?
Gas?  I wouldn't trust them to run a bath, let alone gas company.

Yet again, more posts slagging them off.  Clogging up the forum with too many posts.  LEAVE the company for goodness sake.  They want closing and I am sick of hearing you are only with this for cost reasons.  They are rubbish, end of.

Mm. Oh Dear, Silly me! There was I thinking that this was the Symbio Energy Feedback Forum? where existing customers and others  could discuss matters.

I assume you are an Ex customer with possibly a big chip on your shoulder regards Symbio?

Then fine no problem you are entitled to post and put your opinions / views forward. Hopefully in a more sensible and civilised manner?

But please do not degenerate others here, for posting their experiences or opinions.

Suggest that if you are that "sick of hearing" others comments  then ignore the thread?

But it is open to anyone, so do feel free to post sensibly about your experiences with Symbio.

But perhaps please, not your opinions about other posters comments / contributions?

But we are at 250 odd pages, dominated by 3 or 4 people.  The supplier is crap.  They don't deserve a supply licenece and they certainly don't deserve 250 forum pages.

Hi.  I would agree 100% with what previous has said.  They want closing, end of.  I get the concept to saving money, Ive been with every supplier you can think of doing same.  This one is the exception.  They are rubbish.  If you telephone and the operator says your refund is with senior management waiting to be authrosied, then they tell Ombudsman we are actually changing banks, when they email me about a different customer complaint.  Me and about 30 other email addresses, including housing associations and other businesses, thye are crap.  And i am sorry I am sick fed up listening to they are not stealing, they are borrowing or EAC + 120%.   This community is encouraging bad service, because you stay with them, 10p, 13p, broken record.

Sorry to hear you feel that way about Symbio Energy (although I can understand your frustration to an extent). Still at least you have plenty of other options to choose from.

Well apart from the "Hopeless" Ebico that is, and that presumably goes for Octopus as the licenced energy supplier behind them.

Yes, it seems Octopus are indeed also on your avoid list (despite being Which? award winners for numerous years) You apparently "have zero idea why anyone is now with these" (and Bulb are too expensive for you too)

Or are Octopus actually "fine" ???

Looks like Green energy are also excluded from your potential list, a supplier you describe as "crap"

Perhaps we should all be supplied by " ScottishPower and Britsh Gas" (sic) who you claim to be "a former employee" of?
