Well I'm still leaving even though I could continue with the payments I now make which are okay, I think they are just too unethical for me to deal with any longer. I am taking advantage of their offer to leave without an exit fee. I shall cancel my DD soon. We'll see what happens.

Bearing in mind they are delaying the roll out of the new billing system I would check if they exit fee will still being waived.

I got an email early today from Symbio saying they are delaying the new billing system due to customer feedback and from the regulator.
The most surprising aspect of that is that the regulator would take any interest at all!

I wonder if it's the "30% on top of already inflated EACs cash loan" that's raised eyebrows?

They've already set my EAC at 30% above reality (at least until we visit the ombudsman in a few week's time). If they were to inflate that figure by another 30% we'd by 70% above reality. If they're saying they wouldn't refund credit until you're 20% above the 30% inflated payment level, then I wouldn’t see a refund until I'd paid over double my actual energy cost - we're talking £600+ excess payment, for one customer.

I've no idea how many customers they have, but the figures for the total potential cash grab are eye watering.

Perhaps the regulator might be thinking of the consequences for those left to foot the bill in the event of the company going out of business.

By the way I still haven't received any email from them yet.

     This is the relevant part:

We have postponed the proposed changes to the new billing until further notice to respond to the feedback from customers and the regulator. We anticipate that the changes we make will be beneficial and equitable to the majority of people. In the meantime, please keep in mind that we will bill at the beginning of each month as usual. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience.
Is anyone really surprised? As a total shower of incompetent crooks Symbio couldn't now organise a whatsname in a brewery.

I repeat: do not believe a word they say.

They are in a total mess of their own money-grabbing making. They are going down. (Yes, I know, we've been saying it for ages. But it has to happen, doesn't it? However inexorably.)

All we can do is try to warn off those poor souls who are still signing up (if that is still possible) that they are entering a world of pain from which escape may be slow and costly.
I'd rather be a disappointed optimist than a self-satisfied pessimist

I'd already instigated the move and they know that as I got a sorry you're leaving email the other day. The email I just received didn't say that they were cancelling this offer. I shall keep all this evidence for later complaints if/when that becomes necessary.

Surprise, surprise!  Out of the blue, I had a telephone call at 2pm this afternoon from Symbio asking if I'd like to have a smart meter fitted.

The fitter was in the area and could be with me within the hour!

Lo and behold he turned up at 3pm!  By 4pm I had a brand new Smets2 meter fitted.

Apparently it's got to be adopted by the system and that could take up to 24 hours.

The IHD still says "Not Commissioned", so I assume that this will update once connected.

We shall see.  If it means that Symbio can then bill on actual consumption, rather than the mythical figures they produce each month, then this must be a step forward.

I have a SMETS2 meter and symbio aren't taking my readings from it or updated tariff info etc on it

Edit: just to add to this, they've now taken a smart meter reading on the 27th, I put in a switch request on the 20th, so probably something to do with them getting that ready for the new supplier, I've had to do manual readings up to this point.

I dont think you should be going to symbio thinking you'll be able to use your smart meter effectively. They haven't even got a well coordinated smart meter roll out yet. Just an adhoc call to check if you're in type service.

I've just moved house and the previous supplier was with with Symbio. I'm currently looking to set up my energy supplier and everyone seems to be significantly more expensive than Symbio.
To put into perspective the cheapest on Compare the Market is Blue Energy at 18.7p/kWh and 20.38p/day standing charge. Symbio are showing as 12.9p/kWh and 10p/day standing charge. This is a big difference.
Can someone tell me that I'm reading this wrong so I don't need to consider Symbio any more.

I don't know where you are but if you try eg. Which? Switch or the CAB site you should find other suppliers a similar price to Symbio.
