For blue cheese, I'd recommend the Specially Selected Gorgonzola (Aldi). Not that expensive, either.

Has anyone tried Lidl's DeLuxe breaded wholetail scampi? I couldn't find a mention when searching the thread. I'd just like to know if it is as good as, or hopefully better than, the Whitby brand, which is quite nice, but not particularly cheap. I'm not keen on Youngs. (I don't have an Aldi near me.)

Thanks for the reminder. I must get some in for Christmas. The dolce is very similar to Dolcelatte, not harsh like some Gorgonzola can be.

Anyone else having problems with both the Aldi and the Lidl blue stilton cheese these days? I have been buying it for years and until a few months ago always found it to be very pleasant and extremely good value for money. However, about six months ago I began to notice it had started to taste quite sour and rancid. Very unpleasant - rather like stilton that is way, way, way past it's best. Thinking it might just be my taste buds that have changed I have bought blue stilton from Waitrose and M & S over recent weeks and their's appears to be as fresh and zingy as I remember it should be. Seems strange that, imho, both Aldi and Lidl's stilton has deteriorated in quality at the same time....perhaps they both get it from the same source??

    Just noticed this:

Lidl at the top of the list! They've got the price wrong though - it's even cheaper:

  • I have switched from Tesco Wheat Biscuits to Lidl Bixies. They seem fine and are less crumbly. Sold in packs of 36.

The Aldi ones are more solid so possibly more substantial.

Lidl "Graham's Goodness" Low Calorie Ice Cream - new flavours have arrived including Mint Choc Chip. At £1.99, this is way cheaper than any of the other Low Calories Ice Creams I've seen.

The Mint Choc Chip is IMHO not as nice as the White Choc & Raspberry (which really suits the slightly powdery texture). It's also a vibrant shade of green, rather than the traditionally more subtle mint choc chip colour. Overall... not my favourite - perhaps it will grow on me by the time the bottom of the tub comes into view.

Lucky you, even though I get in early there is always an empty XXL space there:(
