I bought loads from both Aldi and Lidl last year, admittedly later into the summer - and they were delicious. As pointed out on this thread in a recent post, f&v suppliers aren't consistent. I wouldn't be put off by your April experience.Pollycat said:Bad buy at Aldi:ripen at home nectarines - they don't.Maybe I'll reconsider later in the year, although OH (who shops at Tesco) flatly refuses to buy any fruit labelled 'ripen at home'.Potential future good buy from Aldi...last week I noticed they were doing specialty bread in 2 flavours. One was olive, can't remember what the other one was. Think it was £1.10.We sometimes buy this from Tesco (especially their cornbread), it's £1.70.Very nice with tapas style cold meats.1 -
Even if the fruit doesn't ripen it can always be stewed and eaten with yoghurt or custard etc., so all is not lost. Personally my experiences are that a lot of fruit doesn't even reach it's best before date without drying out/starting to develop mould etc., which is why I never buy any fruit (or veg from Mr T since they stopped putting dates on fresh produce)Rosa_Damascena said:

I love these artisan breads - savoury or sweet - but only ever buy them when I am expecting people over as they are far too easy to polish off alons in one sitting. M&S did a date and walnut bread which was one such examplePollycat said:Rosa_Damascena said:

No man is worth crawling on this earth.
So much to read, so little time.1 -
I'd also recommend Aldi's part-baked sourdough half baguettes - they come in packs of 2 - either white or a kind of seeded granary.
For 85p I think they are a bit of a bargain.0 -

For 85p I think they are a bit of a bargain.I keep these in stock, they have a long date. They also do white in packs of 2 and packs of 4 small white rolls.Having one tonight with a home baked camembert and some cold Spanish and Italian meats and olives.2 -

Lidl this morning, all the eggs had display until with today’s date. Are people not eating eggs anymore? Not reduced either. There must been about 300 packs of eggs of all sizes.
Sainsbury’s do reduce eggs two days before the display until date by 25-40%.0 -
Aldi egg dates have been getting shorter in the ones I use, maybe less home baking being done since lockdown was eased?od244051 said:Lidl this morning, all the eggs had display until with today’s date. That doesn't explain why 95% of the eggs have today as display until. I buy eggs and don't bake. Use eggs for boiled, poached, scrambled etc.harz99 said:

Have friends that continue to bake and they are key workers.1
