Good and Bad Buying at Lidl and Aldi (***Please don't expire***)

They are charging £3.99 for click and collect which seems quite steep considering the others can deliver for that price. It seems a good idea but when you think how much £3.99 can buy in Aldi, it adds up quite a bit.1

I'd estimate that having had to switch from Aldi to Tesco for home deliveries is costing us more than £20 a week. I'd be happy to pay £3.99.robrymond said:They are charging £3.99 for click and collect which seems quite steep considering the others can deliver for that price. Yesterday I noticed Christmas goodies are creeping into Lidl. Stollen bites were stacked at the front of the store, which ironically I only saw on the way out.
This morning the media reports COVIDiots are stocking up on Christmas puddings
No man is worth crawling on this earth.
So much to read, so little time.0 -
That's about 10% of our weekly shopping bill. I think we'd stick to shopping in person, unless things got that bad!!robrymond said:They are charging £3.99 for click and collect which seems quite steep considering the others can deliver for that price. However, it probably is in line with the real cost of providing the service, as they are unlikely to be able to subsidise it in the same way that the big supermarkets undoubtedly do (C&C)How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)1 -
Yep, the Xmas goodies are starting to make an appearance in Aldi too. Mince pies and chocolate coins were the two things that caught my eye.Rosa_Damascena said:Yesterday I noticed Christmas goodies are creeping into Lidl. But your not talking about like for like, Click and Collect often means going into the store to a collection point, surely if you're doing that you can go at 7.30am and do your shop when only elderly and vulnerable should be inside, which is what I've been doing since I stopped being able to get delivery slots from Asda/Tesco. We consume a lot of fresh fruit and veg, and fresh pre pack meat, and I'd rather be able to pick my own by date and appearance, not rely on an overworked staff member grabbing the nearest item of the shelf!Doc_N said:

Same every year, Christmas goodies on sale early and when you check use by dates they expire well before Christmas Day, so you eat them but have to buy another lot for Christmas itself = con.Sea_Shell said:

Click and Collect with Aldi just involves a member of staff bringing the food straight to your car boot. No need to enter the store.harz99 said:

For us, £3.99 would be a price well worth paying. Others may feel differently.2 -
Sainsbury’s got rid of the coupons for separate categories as I doubled up from £20 to £40 and got a CD, baking trays, and TTD wineZeroSum said:
Removing the option to do the double up in store was just stupid. Before the did that, I was after a new TV but had none in stock, year after OH wanted a fit it, again none in stock. The fact you have to specify what type of product you want (electrics, seasonal etc) is pointless when you have to pre order vouchers & what you want isn't in stockod244051 said:
Some shops only accepted QR codes on smartphones during the early days of reopening through click n collect. Last year, Sainsbury’s did a Nectar double up which needed a smartphone. My friends said who work for Sainsbury’s said it was the worst thing as those who didn’t have a smartphone had to ring Nectar and spend 15 mins sorting it out.duncanthedog said:
I do most of my shopping in Lidl but I am damned if I will buy a smartphone and get a contract just so that I can download the app.Cornucopia said:It seems to be aimed at customers who do a good proportion of their shopping there.
I can't see what would be wrong with the offers, since each one covers possibly dozens of products and there are 4 different ones each week.
Discrimination at its worst
