It's not a con. You get to eat lovely mince pies!harz99 said:
Same every year, Christmas goodies on sale early and when you check use by dates they expire well before Christmas Day, so you eat them but have to buy another lot for Christmas itself = con.Sea_Shell said:
Yep, the Xmas goodies are starting to make an appearance in Aldi too. Mince pies and chocolate coins were the two things that caught my eye.Rosa_Damascena said:Yesterday I noticed Christmas goodies are creeping into Lidl. Stollen bites were stacked at the front of the store, which ironically I only saw on the way out.
This morning the media reports COVIDiots are stocking up on Christmas puddings

But if it really bothers you, or you have an objection to mince pies on the principle of it not being the right day to eat them, just check the Best Before dates and don't buy them until they are in range.

It doesn't matter to me whether the date is one or t'other, if I'm not going to eat the food by that date, I won't buy it, that way I can be sure of no ill effects. I don't believe I referred to mince pies specifically?mikb said:

You can freeze mince pies. Though some of them the pastry may crumble0

Specifically no, but you were responding to a post that said "Mince pies and chocolate coins" and you'd have to be really obsessive to worry about dates on chocolate coins. Meanwhile, I've added "Mince Pies" to my ALDI shopping list nowharz99 said:

Don't bother with the Lidl ones - DH says that they are horrible (and I think he knows what he's talking about as he loves mince pies).mikb said:

I love mince pies, panettone, stollen, Christmas cake (anything apart from lebkuchen) and am not fussy about whether I eat them at Christmas or any other time of the year. Or rather I used to, something switched off my ridiculous sugar craving earlier this year so I don't think I'll be buying.olgadapolga said:

The tangerines on offer at Lidl last week were really good, have only just got round to trying them now. I wish I'd made a note of the variety. No man is worth crawling on this earth.
So much to read, so little time.0 -
It's an entirely personal thing though. One man's meat........olgadapolga said:

That is, of course, true. Usually DH just says not to bother buying whatever type of mince pies he didn't enjoy and says no more about it but with the Lidl ones he was - and still is, days later - really very vocal about how awful they were.Doc_N said:

I'll find him something to do tomorrow to otherwise occupy his mind.2 -
I bought DH his first box of Aldi stollen bites yesterday. I expect it will be the first of many. I like them too but not the calories that go with them. ☹️2

I always make my own mince pies starting 1st November. Why the early start ? They just disappear when I am not looking. It used to be 30 every week but we are down to about a dozen a fortnight as we get fewer visitors these days.
