What are they saying caused the rust?

They’re not saying anything just that it’s not covered no matter what caused it. Paint work is only covered below the window line (where they can probably say it’s caused by chips etc.). This is the bit I find odd as I told them exactly where it was when I booked it in and when I took it in the service attendant asked what part of the roof it was on and said they’re normally quick responding and it’s not a sign of future problems once they fix it it’ll be fine. Which also sounds like it’s a common fault.

I’m just worried I’ve bought a pig in a poke as I’ve had it such a short time and already there’s rust and the “amazing” Hyundai 5 year guarantee has failed me the first time I’ve had to try using it.

I can’t remember if it was an approved used Hyundai or not, I just assumed it was being a Hyundai dealership and less than a year old. Is there any way to find out other than from them?

Sorry to keep asking questions but you’re being so helpful and are giving me some hope I may not end up with an enormous respray bill.

Have you got a price for respraying the roof?

    Ask at an independent bodyshop.

Not yet, I’m scared to ask. I’m just so shocked they’re saying it’s not covered that I’d like to know if they’re just trying to fob me off before I admit defeat. I’ve googled it and found a few other cars online that look exactly the same so is it a known issue?

I was under the impression that the paintwork has its own, separate guarantee? Where usually a car will have a 3/5 year “mechanical” warranty, the paintwork usually gets a much longer warranty/guarantee of around 12 years?

Warranty scope, Covers the cost of repair or replacement of body parts in the event of perforation by corrosion originating from the inside surface of the vehicle.(see 'Terms and Conditions' below).

It’s on the actual rim so is on the edge, could that not originate from the inside?

A roof is a pretty easy job because there won't be any adjacent panels to take into account. A good quality job should be around £300-400.

Assuming this is a few light scabs and not serious corrosion.

    Ah Arnold Clark.

Speak to Hyundia head office direct.

I wouldn't put too much faith in 'managers car'.

    It's probably ex hire.

If you think about it the bodywork below the window line is the area that is most likely to be chipped. No, it is not covered in that area because of poor removal and refitting of replacement windscreens by windscreen fitters, they can damage the paint and zinc rustproof coating if they're hamfisted when cutting the old screen out. I wonder if it has had a replacement windscreen at some point.
