£16.36 in Aldi, and £1.18 in B&M, includes bottle of brandy ad 2 y.s cranberry sauce.
Do I need it or just want it.
  • I've been staying with my parents for nearly a week but before we went I spent around £11 (lost the receipt) on food for the journey there and since getting back I've spent £1.15 on bananas. We're running a bit low on cheese and butter but I reckon I can cobble enough meals together over the weekend to not have to buy anything until early next week. This could actually be a good month!

Two small spends today, £6.70 in the market and £5.69 at the Co-op. Used a 40p MOC against a tin of salmon for stores and also bagged some ys items - a x6 pack of hot X buns, a bag of fine green beans and x2 red peppers. :) DH bought a 900g bag of cooked frozen mussels but the cash for that came out of the separate bulk fund, so not counting it here.

There's £73.35 left in the budget with two weeks to go but, as I won't need anything other than milk next week, I'm hoping to have a sizeable surplus this month. Mind you, I have thought this before and somehow or other it just hasn't worked out that way! :D

Right, off to do next week's meal plan. Have a good (and thrifty) weekend all.
Be kind to others and to yourself too.

  • £22 spent at the butchers, and a friend picked up some fish for me at the market today for £5. But I didn't feel much like cooking today so we got a takeaway... my excuse being that I started the last "cycle" of my treatment yesterday & just wanted to rest in the warm living room this evening. I'll probably transfer the extra £3 on the "Entertainments" budget - now bust! - over onto the grocery budget. We haven't spent anything on beer, cider or wine this month - still have plenty left over from the festive stock-up, the kids don't drink much & nor do I just now! - so I'm not dismayed.

Right that's it I'm barring myself from setting foot into a supermarket. I went in for cat litter yesterday and managed to spend £50.40! This means I've now spent a total of £368.63 this month. Still under budget but it's more than I was hoping for. The plan for this week will be to only do an online shop so that I can't be tempted by impulse buys!

  • Hi everyone...
February so far... £59.88 spent so far, meaning there's 1588.75 left of my annual budget. Signature updated.
Proud to report 11 NSDs so far. (5 SDs though... 2 of which have been for.... sweets!!! It's a disgrace)
A bit of grin and bear it, a bit of come and share it
You're welcome we can spare it, yellow socks
  • £26 went at the Farmer's Market today, on two packs of diced goat (one already frozen for later reference) and a tub of delicious olives. The unfrozen pack of goat will go into a curry on Monday, the remains of which will a) be OH's working lunch on Tuesday and b) reappear on eat-it-up Thursday either in a pie or on baked potatoes, depending on how lazy I feel! There'll be a little more spent at tomorrow's market on fresh fruit & veg, but not much as there's still some left from last week's haul.

And in other news, I'm delighted to report that The Girls are coming back into lay, so I can stop buying eggs! Day-old chicks will be sourced once we have a broody and next winter's egg supply should be safe...

Payday was yesterday. This is my first time trying to keep control of food budget; not sure if I should be in Feb or March as my month won't end until mid March. Anyway, first shop of the pay month was £53. Not the best shop as I only did a partial list and I definitely still need to get milk as well as other bits later in the week. I'm aiming to spend no more than £75 a week for 2.5 adults (one doesn't eat at home much and sometimes buys his own bits), 1 teenager and a preteen.

Bonus the chickens have started laying so that will reduce the shopping cost a little. Only 2 chickens now and both are about 8 years old so we won't get loads of eggs but every little helps. I use a lot of eggs as I feed my dogs raw food so eggs once a week (4 eggs) and I have another animal that eats an egg 2 or 3 times a week.
  • Another egg-eating animal, shirlgirl2004? Intrigued...! And I don't think it matters where you "park" budget-wise; March isn't up there yet so February's a good place to start!

I actually spent £20.10 on cheese, fresh fruit & veg this morning; a bit more than I'd intended but there were some good bargains to be had - 2 lovely caulis for £1, for example. Of course, they're only bargains if I actually use them, so I shall have to re-jig the menu plan slightly to make sure I do. And our usual lunch-guests (DS2 & ladyfriend) aren't available today so the freezer space will be called upon to stash some leftovers from the roast too. They'll come in handy later.
