  • Hi everyone! I’ve been rather absent this time around due to repatriating back to the US and having a bit of reverse culture shock. :)

I’m already more than halfway through my total for month and that’s due to restocking my apartment pantry and fridge with things like olive oil, laundry detergent, etc. Along the way I’ve picked up sales and my fridge and freezer are coming along nicely. Some highlights: good quality whole chickens, BOGO canned tomatoes, Beyond Meat burgers (OH wants me to try them and report back), low sugar snack bars, frozen shrimp, and more.

    TOTALS SO FAR:
    $267.29 / $450.00
    4 / 10 NSD

Sunday I'll make a chicken soup to last several meals and will need to pick up chicken stock and some spices. From now on, I’m going to try keeping my purchases to $30/week to focus on fruit and veg or bits for recipes like spices. I’ll be checking in here more now, because doing so totally keeps me on track and minding my pennies. Y’all are a good influence. :)
  • Hi all just dropping in to say how great this thread is. Really supportive and good ideas. Nice to know there are people in the same boat watching the pennies and experiencing the same pitfalls! x
  • Right, I've ground the coffee beans from the freezer and have everything ready to fill the house the scent of the weekend in the morning. :coffee: DS always comes downstairs saying when he wakes up and smells coffee brewing it's what reminds him it's not a school day. ::j
    Happy weekend all!

Awww, this is really sweet. What a great memory he’ll have when he grows up. :)

    Hi all!

I hope you are all well, I gave up on forums last year as my Dad was poorly from October and passed away in November so everything went crazy for a while. I am just getting back on top of all my accounts again now so would like to rejoin again!

Oh no Tales17, I missed this! I am so sorry and condolences to you and your family. Welcome back; I know how disorienting a loss like this can be.

    Thursday- turkey steaks with veg
    Friday - chicken pie

wysiwyg49, I find the runner beans in Iceland are really nice and good value at £1!!
  • Tales17 - it's understandable that you took some time away. Still remember to be kind to yourself and if you don't come in budget it's not a fail just a bump in the road. You are doing your best in what is likely a hard time still :grouphug: (sorry about the weird looking hug).

Since last post we have spent £4.68.

    £83.60/£182.
    £98.40 left.
I am a vegan woman. My OH is a lovely omni guy :D

I have a couple of small spends to report. We went to the Farm Shop this morning to stock up on fresh veg, £3.70 spent. Also popped into MrT’s, spending £3.75 on soy sauce, potato salad and three huge Snowman shopping bags, which were 60p each.

We also cleared £4.40 of £2 coins, coppers and 5p pieces from the grocery challenge purse.

The above brings our total spend to £60.13/£142.20, leaving £82.07 for the rest of the month.

My condolences Tales17 and a big hug. I’m very sorry to read your news - October and November must have been very hard for you.

  • Did my first food spend of Feb yesterday totalled £63.41, that's a massive shop for me, but hopefully this big but rare will suit me better than little and often. Looking at it this, bar essentials should keep me going for at least 2 weeks. Treated myself to a £3 pasty on the way home for a very rare treat
