I'm declaring for the week and putting the money in the stash pot. I think there may have been a slight accounting error and I had £11.20 in the purse - a few pennies more than I thought - so £1.20 on stir fry veg on Wednesday took me to having exactly £10 left in the food purse.
So £55/£260 for Feb!Grocery challenge:December 2022 £151.96/£400 . Advent decluttering challenge 47/240.0 -
Top ups required and some other assorted bits.
£29.95 Ald!
£8.67 IckLand
£8 £Shop
Should see us through another week.
Couple of brand new recipe attempts this past week have gone well.
Mushroom fajitas - definite win.
Shaksuka - definite win although need to cook it in a different/wider pan as it was much more 'liquid' than i think is intended.
Trying Aloo Dum today from Jack Monroe's latest book, and beetroot burgers on the menu too over the weekend.
Already pre-ordered her next one - Tin Can Cook
At this rate we should make it under target for Feb. Off to update siggyWealth is not measured by currency0 -
I am keeping our grocery spends as low as I can while still stocking up on my brand fixes (4 jars of fave coffee that DS bought from Asbo's this week). I do need a few things though and fully expect the percentage for the year to top 10% by then end of the weekend, knowing me. £247.98/£3000 to date is 8.27%.
I cooked a much simplified melanzane parmigiana on Wednesday and then used the other half of the tomato sauce to adapt a recipe I saw Jamie O make recently - no idea what he called it!
I used a combination of leek sheets (my substitution a la hairy bikers) and lasagne pasta as the wrappers for little roulades of roasted butternut squash, mashed and spread on the sheets, then topped with a mix of cooked onions, frozen spinach, finely chopped leeks and feta-style cheese (seasoned with nutmeg, S&P, chilli flakes, and rolled and cut so they sat like little whirls in the dish. Then I added some balls of sausage-meat (my addition - it needed using) between the little roulades and put tomato sauce in the gaps with some grated Italian hard cheese on top. Baked it for 40 minutes until all bubbling and toasted looking. It was a minor faff but definitely a bit of a new favourite - with or without the sausage.Save £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)
OS Grocery Challenge in 2025 I am at £1286.68/£3000 or 42.89% of my annual spend so far

Couple of little spends (AGAIN!!) brings my total up to £138.07/£580. Am going to A!di tomorrow and going to do a 'proper' shop as have been getting little and often but never seem to have anything in. I avoided T3sco last night. DS has 3 hours of footie training and too far to go home and normally I pop there for a couple of bits. I didn't last night so saved £20 I reckon
Have a good weekend.

That leek dish sounds lovely!
My car had to go to the garage today for a couple of minor fixes. I walked home and then back to collect him. On the drive home, since I was going past L*dl, I dropped in for a “browse”. (It’s February; the time of year when they normally sell their 4-ply recycled toilet paper, which they don’t sell year round. I’m stalking them for it. If anyone sees it, please let me know.)
Anyway, I’m kicking myself. I got distracted at the till and didn’t notice that the three Halva I picked up didn’t trigger a discount. I would have sworn the sign over their shelf said 3 for £3. I’ve only just noticed, four hours later. I love Halva, but I’d have only bought one if there hadn’t been an offer. That’s £2.97 extra that I shouldn’t have spent (or £3.98, if I hadn’t seen the offer at all). Grrrr......
In the end, I spent £10.22, which brings our total spend for the month to £48.28/£142.20, leaving £93.92 for the rest of the month.

A little late this month but at least I've been keeping a note of what I've spent. Please can I be put down for £450 this month. I've already spent £201.10 but this includes a family meal out and a big monthly shop with cleaning bits from the beginning of the month. I'm hoping to keep to my budget this month as dd and I are away on a trip to see her favourite band in March so it will be nice to be able to put some money away for that. I'm also hoping to use up what I have in the freezer (left over from the pre meal planning days) and then I can start meal planning for more than a week ahead, well that's the plan anyhow :rotfl: I hope everyone has a good weekend.GC 2023 June £72/500 NSDs 1/100

I have spent £152.43 so far this year, & updated my signature. I have a lot of homemade ready meals in the freezer, useful when I come home from a late shift.
I am going on holiday on Monday so will not be buying any more food until the end of the month. I have got some things to use up, like sweet red pepper and tomatoes which will be turned into soup and frozen, Bread still remaining can be frozen and any odds and ends that won't keep I will offer to DS1.Grocery challenge 2025: £650/1500 annual budget0
