As a child I would open something like a pencil case having watched my brother open a new computer or scalextric or similar. Often I got nothing at all though so...

Now I usually recieve lavender smellies from MIL which I'm allergic to. Last year it still had her name on it from when she had recieved it from her SIL.

I received from my hubby last year as my only present a freebie he got when he bought a brand new all singing all dancing phone.

My goodness this is a really sad one. How can parents be so horrible? Send me your address four candles, I'll send you something nice this Christmas! :D

I just think that if you don't know someone very well then you should buy bubble bath or chocolates, but a pair of tights???

Haha - reminds me of a few Christmases ago my MIL bought me tights....brown fishnet ones in a size small (I'm 5'10) (Other bits and bobs as well, but the tights stand out)

Another year I got a beige bra type vst thing. Unfortunately it was a 32B...I haven't been a B cup since I was about 15

For a birthday I got 3 CD albums. Not so bad you would think but a) they were copies and b) They weren't my taste in music (I mean, Craig David? C'mon!):rotfl:

Last year I got the ugliest necklace in the world. Honestly, it was a greenish hammered gold circle with glass beads....*shudder* mind you, I did also get a £20 Next voucher, which I spend on the kids in the January sales :D (OH got £50 cash, so got to choose his own shopping lol):rotfl:

  • Last year from around September/October my b/f said he knew what he was getting me for xmas and kept me guessing till 25th Dec, everyone else knew and I couldnt wait, a designer bag, pair of shoes, a trip away!!!????
I had bought him quite a few things, I like it when people have lots to open, even if they are smallish, CD's DVD's etc aswell as the main big presie.

He turned round infront of my whole family and gave me a long parcel,
    It was a registration plate............
I tried to look pleased but my mum later said she could tell what I was thinking.
But after the initial shock I realised that it was a private number plate with my nick name on he had bought the rights to for me...... not sure its something a girl would appreciate, but the thought and expense was there......

I always make a big deal out of it now and tell him how much I love it cause I felt bad for him re my reaction on the day.... (now I come to think of it, it is quite a cool thing to have... none of my friends have one, and its unique to me)

  • We usually get a 'sack' of wee things from my hubbie's mum & dad - and usually she has trawled Poundland & similar to fill it.

The worst so far was tea towels and shortbread fingers - wrapped separately mind you :p . I am in my early 30's !!

I'm very tempted to get the same for her this year.....
  • A bag of nuts from my mother In law. What is it about mother in law presents why are they sooo bad?
  • One year I excitedly unwrapped a present from my gran to find I'd been given a disposable cape (the type you get to wear on a log flume) and when I unfurled it the writing on the front bore the legend:-

"Compliments of the Heritage Museum, Cape Cod".

Can you believe it? She was rich enough to go on holiday to Cape Cod, and tight enough to save the freebie for her granddaughters Christmas present. In her defence she did develop dementia and this may have been at the onset. Not sure if mean or mad but either way it was a terrible present. My brothers made me wear it and took photos. :o
  • In true money saving style and in the spirit of recycling my nan has a suitcase with a big cardboard label saying "unwanted xmas gifts" hiding (not very well) in the spare room. In it go all the gifts she receives and doesn't like and they get re-distributed throughout the family next year...

...Only thing is i do wish she would make a list of who had brought them for her in the first place!!!
  • it used to be a running joke with my cousins and I about who got the most interesting present from our aunt. Some include, deodrant sets, split and shared out between us, deodrant cans half used without a lid.

My MIL doesnt give rubbish presents, she bought me GHDs one year :)

Some of these are funny and others are quite sad :(

  • When I was a 17 year old party loving girl, a very good (well off) friend of mine bought me a set of dominoes in a presentation case  .
