What would a signature on the letter do?
If the EU do not want to offer an extension, then a signature won't make any difference.
The Benn Act puts the control into the hands of the EU. It's up to them how things develop now.
If Bozo signed it,then he would have to go and die in a ditch!0 -
Is it any surprise remainers moan when Leavers cannot get their facts straight. The Benn Act requires the agreement to be laid before Parliament (Commons and Lords) and approved by each House. To date that has not happened.
Johnson's behaviour was puerile. He is representing our country and there are certain conventions that apply to conducting professional business including between nations. Signing formal letters is one of them.
Well at least it enabled the voters to identify their local MPs true intentions. No wonder most MPs are running scared of the next election. That's when the real peoples vote will be counted.0 -
Legally none but it ain't cricket. What next refusing to shake hands?
So nothing then.
It's like those infamous cases of someone writing their divorce cheque on used underwear.
It made their point, but the money still got paid.
If the EU got their deal over the line, they wouldn't care if it was Boris or Jimmy Carr who signed it.
Boris could have signed using blood as ink. The extension control remains with the EU. It always has, despite the Benn act.0 -
Hilarious, calling Boris "childish" when these same remainers placed a restriction on Boris forcing him to request an extension if we didn't get a deal.
Then - when we get a deal - rather than vote on it these same remainers put yet another obstacle in the way forcing Boris to ask for an extension before they even vote on the deal!
Actually the Benn act forced him to ask for an extension if he got a deal they didn't like.
Because his deal, among other things, throws the DUP under the bus they anticipated that it could take longer to get the legislation passed. As they rightfully don't trust Liar Boris then they didn't want to vote to accept the deal and then have it fail, so that Boris could leave without a deal.
If anyone could possibly trust Liar Boris then parliament would run a lot better, but he keeps doing things that make people trust him less and less.Well at least it enabled the voters to identify their local MPs true intentions.
If you're angry with them then no, it didn't. But it has fueled the uninformed far right hate groups. What would a signature on the letter do?
It would say that it was from Boris, by not signing it then it's likely he didn't comply with the Benn act. If he didn't consider signing it makes no difference, then why not sign it?
The second letter also appears to contravene the Benn act, we'll find out when the court case resumes. It would be nice to see him punished for his lifetime of lies and deceipt. If the EU do not want to offer an extension, then a signature won't make any difference.
Haven't you asked yourself why the EU are happy with this deal and don't want an extension? Have you read the deal? It's interesting how leavers haven't realised that if the EU wants this deal then it's probably not good for them. The Benn Act puts the control into the hands of the EU. It's up to them how things develop now.
The Benn act puts control into the hands of parliament, it takes it from Liar Boris who shouldn't even be trusted with the government postage stamps0 -
FIFA voided votes in the best player award because they signed in capital letters yet some how an unsigned letter not on official letterhead paper (photocopy) is legal? I'm not so sure. Also regardless of whether or not it met the legal requirements for the Benn act it might not meet the legal requirements for European treaty law. My guess is that the EU will not commit itself for a while. I think the government would have a case against any extension on the basis that it wasn't negotiated with the UK government (Parliament and Government aren't the same thing)0

He or his lawyers will be making a representation to the court soon to say he did satisfy the Benn act by sending the letter asking for the extension, it would be legally problematic if he argued in court that he didn't send it. That would be a clear contempt of court.
Liar Boris legal team will do their best to keep him away from a court, because he can't help himself from lying at every opportunity.0 -
The argument is that the Benn act only required him to send the letter, those arguing the case that the Benn act forces him to actually seek an extension can't push the argument too far before it starts to become unlawful (separation of powers).0

It wouldn't make any difference - the EU wouldn't take him more seriously or do anything differently.
It's purely an attempt to curry favor with his fan base, because it looks like he's giving the EU what for, or something.0 -
