JIT does tend to mean there's minimal warehousing of surplus parts so is vulnerable to things going wrong.

I don't think 17 days to get a mudflap from Belgium is a JIT problem, you could get it couriers overnight normally, so presumably something went wrong. I think we covered this months ago, though.

It’s a measure of the sort of arguments that we get from leavers these days that I genuinely cannot tell if this was a serious post or not..

Anyway, for the record, JIT (or TPS - Toyota Production System) was developed by Toyota in Japan in the early 1970s - which was remarkably percipient of them at that time if they were EU remainers.

JIT came out of American research. I prefer OPT which was also American with some Israeli input.

...and the reason you can't tell something is because you lack the humour gene.

The idea that all global JIT manufacturing can only be happening within customs unions does seem a bit ludicrous.

Here's what the Fear Checker page has to say about JIT.

That doesn't seem to say much or explain why it'll be alright.
I thought the Max Facilitation plan of Mays got shot down by the EU in 2017?

I’d be genuinely interested to see your source for your claim that JIT came out of American research. In the three decades I’ve been working in production it’s always been credited to Mr. Ohno in Japan.

And I presume when you say Israeli you’re talking about Goldratt? Similarly, I’m not aware of any American input into his OPT/TOC ideas - although I’d agree that they first became popular in the US.

Your final sentence doesn’t actually make sense as written. However, to clarify - I meant serious in the sense I couldn’t tell whether you actually meant what you had typed. It certainly wasn’t funny and so my remarkably well-developed humour gene remained utterly untroubled :)

I do apologise. I was probably a bit cranky. (it happens when the hound eats some fresh money!)

Tbh, I don't think this Brexit process is going to satisfy anyone. You see this in general frustration, on forums and media.

I wonder if it ever was possible. The Tories have been infighting over Europe for years. Sometimes, some things should remain as domestics.

But what the Government are saying is that they will not be checking anything, in the grace period, what about the money raised from tariffs and illegals?

But according to WTO rules we can't give anyone favourable treatment outside an FTA, so if we don't check or charge EU imports as a matter of policy, then we can't do so for anyone.

For that reason, goods going to the EU will be handled by the book. Still bad for manufacturers as JIT works in both directions.

Some hard line free traders would be ok with zero tariffs to everyone.

Maybe just in one corner of her psyche she was ahead of her time.
