I'm not sure it says anything about London Remainers. Our role in Europe wouldn't change, and the direction of Europe won't change much with some minor changes in power balance. We'd still be in and helping steer things. If we leave, then we get to put up with whatever Europe does.

What I would like to know is why so many London voters are so out of touch with the rest of the UK and with Europe?

Why would you want to know about something that's not true?

London is just unusual in being a metropolitan area big enough to have its own European seat, I imagine other university towns or metropolitan areas showed similar patterns of voting.

I'm still waiting to hear how these election results show that a clear majority of the country want a "No Deal" Brexit.

If you want to take anything from these results it is that the country is as divided on the whole Brexit issue as Parliament is, and there probably isn't a clear majority at present in favour of a first choice of "Remain", "Deal" or "No Deal".

    What a shock.....

However we spin it, the fact that 34% of people who voted, voted for Nigel Farage, paints a dismal picture of England.

    ENGLAND??

Nothing about the number of votes for Brexit is dismal it's just different to your perspective.

What is dismal is the ambivalence of the electorate who for any number of reasons just didn't bother to vote.

And what is also clear is the position has not really become any clearer.:(

.....and Wales but Scotland is going it's own way. Corbyn now needs to come on board.....remain and reform! The EU being a capitalist club argument and using state aid rules as a reason to accept brexit is pointless if your aim is to stay close to the EU anyway....we'll still be subject to them under a Customs Union. Only a no deal brexit gets him out of that. He is incoherent on the EU. Starmer is the obvious choice......and get rid of that Leonard guy in Scotland while we're at it. The SNP have destroyed Labour due to our Better Together campaign. We were damaged far more than the tories there and having a succession of poor leaders doesn't help.

Edit.....actually just checked the Welsh figures..... PC+LD+Grn+CUK= 42.7 whereas Brxt +UKIP=35.8......so happily I was wrong above!

They don’t. Turnout was 37% and about 35% voted Brexit Party which is about 10%ish.

The Tory’s have a majority of 4 in the HoC if you include the 10 DUP - good luck getting a no deal through. It only takes 2 or 3 Tories to vote no confidence and we’re into GE territory.

Let’s see if 10% of the voting population can actually make a no deal happen in a GE - I would guess not.

It is dismal. The EU has given us prosperity, rights, cleaner environment and yet we are leaving because half the country don't like working together with the foreigners that made it possible.

It is within your right to hold that viewpoint, but you have to accept that it doesn't make you look good. Like you can wear red trousers, but you can't make us think you're not weird for doing so.

If you know you're gong to be fined if you don't turn up then I think asking someone to turn up and impersonate you is an acceptable way to cast your vote.

So your are condoning electoral fraud by impersonating other people. You crack me up:rotfl:

I would also spread voting over multiple days and give a report on how parties are doing, so you can make tactical decisions. The idea that tactical voting is somehow wrong is absurd, although going to single transferable voting would be fairer and remove the requirement.

This isn't a game of chess where move and counter move in a logical plan leads to one winner. This is about representatives from the parties explaining to the electorate why they should support their party. Failure to sell their party results in poor performance at the polls.

Making sure that everyone is registered to vote is a bigger hurdle, people often don't register as a way to claim single person discount on the council tax where they reside. That is something that should be dealt with anyway.

Cross referencing NI number and polling status, registered or otherwise, should be simple. Also most people have a driving licence so traceability is achievable.

I'd like to know how you know so much about electoral fraud. Maybe you should have advised the review which found very low numbers https://www.ncpolitics.uk/2016/12/how-big-a-problem-is-voting-fraud-in-uk-elections/

Seems you like you have your own perspective on electoral fraud see first comment.

How out of touch are they? A higher turnout swapped lib dem from 2nd place to 1st place.

The fascists are on the rise in europe, but the majority haven't backed them. Like the majority haven't backed the brexit party.

A better question would be why so many leave supporters are out of touch.

Well, whatever you think of Farage, you have to admire his organisation skills.

Forms a political party, chooses the candidates for an election we didn't know was happening until a few weeks ago, puts all the election machinery into place and secures 32% of the vote. All in 6 weeks.

Can you imagine any other politician we've recently entrusted to run the country being able to do the same?
If I don't reply to your post,
you're probably on my ignore list.
