Brexit the economy and house prices part 7: Brexit Harder

Had a Brexiteer reply to me today ...
"WTO is stage one of Brexit, this is what seems to be confusing to people. The agreements with various countries and blocs would be negotiated from that starting point, but without a starting point nothing happens
This is what has been painfully apparent over the last 3 years.
Brexit is a direction, not a single event"
Does the ERG know this? They seem hellbent on leaping off the cliff. I guess they will work out who should have brought the parachute afterwards?
Leaving on WTO terms will probably cause such mayhem (not to Farage or Johnson personally you understand) that it may not be possible to salvage any meaningful deals with us. Remember
this process was originally led by Brexiteers (BoJo, Fox and co) and they made such a mess of negotiations May had to hand it over to others.
This whole mess was so badly managed I do not think that the nation will ever trust the two main parties again.Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.0 -

Because the first step in any negotiation is to inflict as much pain to yourself and the other party as possible & then they'll be much happier giving you what you want. Right?
Just think how would that work if someone did that to you personally, would you be more amenable? I don't think anyone would.0 -
You are making the assumption that because people may be generally nice to people they know that they are thoroughly decent people. This is wrong on so many levels. It's how you think about people you don't know that defines whether you are decent.
Well it’s good to have it confirmed if only by yourself on here that you view Leave voters as without decency.
I admire your honesty, if little else.“Britain- A friend to all, beholden to none”. 🇬🇧0 -
Couldn't put a figure on it. But if you think it's an inconsequentially small number then you need to leave your bubble a bit more often.
If you then add in the ones who were led to believe that all their problems were the fault of the EU, the ones who were told that they had nothing left to lose & the ones who blindly take in whatever the Daily Mail tells them it becomes an even larger number.
I think you already accounted for the Daily Mail readers when you used the word “thick”. That said, so wrapped up in your nasty invective are you, you’ve obviously missed the Daily Mail’s change of approach on Brexit. Perhaps it’s you that inhabits a bubble and you need to move away from the hackneyed ‘Daily Mail reader’ trope so beloved of the angry, unthinking remain voter desperate to lash out.
Although you paint a damning picture of your fellow countrymen and women, it does display a staggering amount of arrogance on your part to feel you have the right to be so condemnatory of your fellow citizens.
Arrogance does however seem to be a remain voter character trait, so perhaps I shouldn’t be so surprised.“Britain- A friend to all, beholden to none”. 🇬🇧0 -
Amazing to think, amazing to say/write.
Has Theresa May played a near perfect game to keep Britain in the EU.
1) She activated article 50 as quickly as she could
2) She called a General Election to lose her majority in the House of Commons
3)The deal which at the beginning was the straightforward route out of the EU she managed to create the idea that it was such a bad deal she could not get it through Parliament
4) She will resign in June when her part of the anti Brexit plan is done. Leaving every possibility that Britain will NOT LEAVE THE EU.
I may have missed out some of her steps to frustrate Brexit.
After she has gone others will continue to build on her success.
I can even see chancer Boris Johnson if PM calling for a people’s vote. Unless she beats him to it with a confirmatory vote linked to the deal vote in June.
Yes we live in interesting times. There will be no Brexit dividend for Britain.0 -

Where have I been "condemnatory of my fellow citizens"?
Once again, you seem to believe that 17.4 million spoke with a single voice. I have pointed out that they didn't.
The whole of your above post is simply an ad hominem attack. When you have no answers, don't play the ball, play the man.
And you accuse me of arrogance?
PS, the Mail may have softened it's approach with Geordie Greig in charge but it was a vastly different message sent out by Paul Dacre at the time of the referendum.0 -
If you dislike EU politicians or immigrants that you have never met and use lazy stereotypes then believe me you are not a thoroughly decent person.0

Not talking specifically of you Phill, but there is plenty of judgement of the likes of TM, Corbyn, Rees-Mogg etc on here by many people who I am sure have never actually met the person in question. They are judged by what they say / do in the public domain, and I suspect that EU politicians at least are judged the same way.
We have a TV channel that allows us to watch TM in her day job, it's all public record. Those that don't like her can probably cite plenty of concrete reasons.
I assume the EU has similar records but we don't as a whole look at it.
I've never met May but I've seen enough of her to know she's a horrible human being. I don't think those attacking EU elected leaders have the same level of information.0 -
there is some interesting development currently.
I've followed a guy with the handle Daddy Dragon for a while now.
Long story short, he is a UK man that is an English constitutionalist.
He is currently involved in a crowd sourced court case against Theresa May et al. where the claim is that
England de facto has already left the EU the 29 March 2019 as stated in a law called the European Union Withdrawal Act 2018.
The upcoming court case (if approved) has received zero coverage in the UK mainstream media.
If the court case is accepted and heard he believes the case is so strong that the government will be forced to recognize this as fact.
It would be interesting to hear UK based members feedback to this info.

The court case for those that enjoy reading law: http://robintilbrook.blogspot.com/20...-queen-on.htmlNothing has been fixed since 2008, it was just pushed into the future0 -
Nice one. But don't get too excited folks. Even if the case were technically, legally and morally valid. Probably because Parliament forgot to legislate to put the leaving date back.
As the case nears it's final judgement deadline, space, time and reality will curve in such a way that 'Daddy Dragon' will lose the case and be charged with costs.0
