Finally got home insurance sorted, saving us £50 on the renewal quote. I did not, however, remember to go through a cash back site so no bonus there - I was losing the will to live trying to add up how much our stuff would cost to replace and really couldn't face re-entering it all last night. I could have waited until tonight but, based on how my week has gone so far (I am on my third laptop in 2 days with no 4 expected tomorrow) there would have been a fire, flood or an earthquake in the 6 hours between the old insurance expiring and the new one kicking in...
Next tedious finance job is to source a new bank account. I am quite interested in the Monzo/Starling type accounts so need to investigate those more closely. Any thoughts from anybody who might be reading this would be most welcome!

I'm a fan of Monzo, recommended to me by people on here. I like the instant alerts, and that you can allocate a category to a transaction so you can see what you are spending and where x0

Hey you,
Well done on getting your insurance sorted, its such a task sometimes so it is!
I have no experience of Monzo/Starling so can't help there - sorry!
I'm with Nationwide for my main account and have a savings account with HSBC cos they have the coin machine in branch that doesn't take a % off your money!

Erm let me think.... I'll pass thanks :rotfl: I did the RFL10k in Edinburgh a couple of summers ago - twice around Arthur's Seat - 3km up 2km down then repeat. Never again! Spartan was preferable!

So last night was not even remotely MSE because this numpty managed to forget her keys. Instead of Hubs cancelling his night out to come to my rescue we went to McDs for dinner followed by Aquaman. Needless to say, the kids were delighted... So that's £30 spent (thankfully Hubs gets a deal through work so cinema tickets were £5 each and he sent me the QR codes or it would have been WAY more expensive!)
I am now completely shattered, as were the kids this morning. At least I don't have rugby practice tonight!
Have added 'cut spare key and leave with child minder' to my to do list...26.2.19/14.1.19: T MC 3629.26/3629.26 : VM 0% 1050/13876.59 : W 0% 100/1485 = 4409.26/18990.85 =25.17%28.1.19/28.1.19 Hubs 0% £400/£2,977 =13.44%SPC 2019 #073

Oh dear - bet you don't do that again in a hurry! Easy done though - I came back from a run last year and realised when I got back I'd totally forgotten to grab my key before I went out - thankfully Mum was able to pop over with the spare as our neighbour who also has one was out! Definitely a plan to have spares with folk you trust!
Could have been worse anyway - cheaper than a locksmith would have been!🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

I want to get rid of the debt from my old life, teach myself to manage money better, become a saver, think ahead, prepare for any eventualities. Insure against the existence I had before.
No point sugarcoating stuff on here. If people are gunna be judgey then they can just bugg** off :rotfl:
The run sounds fun!
I second Monzo - I really love it. I only use it for spends so haven't gone "full monzo" but for spending it's great. You can set targets and categories spends as well. You get notifications instantly when you make a payment (although you can turn them off if you want) so no discrepancies with balance vs. available balance that you sometimes still get with other banks.Total Debt : ?? / ??0 -
