Overall, we had a great time. Was only the 2 of us this time

My gut feeling is based on the losses i got this time, Mlife will just say "save your flight money and just give us your money, your gonna lose it anyway! " hehe !

I go back to the US end of Sep, with my dad and my pal, so 2 nights in Big Bear Lake, then onto Laughlin for 1 night (Aquarius) , and then 4 nights in Vegas..... Chasing my losses ? nah! just going back to collect what i just lost!!!!

Glad you still had a good time despite the weather and losses.

Have you been to Big Bear Lake before? We're looking at some places there for a couple of nights next April so any recommendations?

Thanks for the report Stuie. Are the rental car prices always so expensive for a LA to Vegas trip? We usually fly into Vegas and tour from there, but might consider what you did if the car costs were a bit better.

    hi
and thanks for the fantastic trip report stuie..I've noticed there seems to be only a handful over the last year or so and well yours is one of the ones i always try to look out for !!

As for getting bumped from your room im reading your report and im thinking huh ( confused face here ) I mean a big (should i say a 5 star hotel?) should know the coming and goings, and they gave you that room knowing how long you are there for.
I know it was comped but if they wanted YOU to move and possiable to a lower standard room, atleast THEY could have done is given you something for your troubles?
Anyhow all the best for your next trip im hoping you hit max bet on a machine first go and get something like $20,000 or something!
thanks again for your trip report:T

A lot of people seem to be saying this, but I can't say I smelt it at all in October last year....
same here, can't say i noticed it all - in fact the only time was once when walking past a hotel room!

and I don't smoke, so it's not like I'm used to it :D
Cannabis became legal in July 2017. Last year I didn't notice it at all, even when the OH did, apart from one slight whiff. It didn't help that I didn't know what it smelt like.

This year it was unmistakable. Even without knowing what it smelt like, I very soon learned. And it wasn't just a faint odd smell, it was really, really strong. We spent very little time on the strip. In fact we were there 3 days before we set foot on it, but smelt it every time.

I can almost 100% guarantee that you will smell it on your next trip if you go anywhere near the strip.

I don't think it devalues the location. That honour goes to the ones who tout themselves for photos wearing nothing but duct tape over their norks and private bits (and that's just some of the men)
Admittedly, I don't like the smell of the herbal tobacco, or ordinary ciggies, but it can't be any worse than people staggering up and down those giant plastic glasses filled full of margarita.
I think the place can do without both tbh. But, it's just how it is now.
I'm not sure how you can compare seeing something to smelling something. Yes I saw extremely drunk people a couple of times during the day, but simply carried on walking and ignored them.

The stench was something it wasn't so easy to ignore or get away from. The pavement was narrowed at a section between Fatburger and the Coke Bottle due to construction, and the wooden walls seemed to concentrate it even worse there. Bear in mind that the smoke in the casinos doesn't bother me. In fact very little in Vegas does, as everyone is entitled to do Vegas their own way. The fact I'm even mentioning it may give you an idea how bad it was. It's not like I'm a first timer and shocked by some of the sights and things that go on. Most of the things that seem to shock some people, especially first timers, I barely even notice, such as the drinks tubes and half naked characters. I'd much prefer they weren't there, but they don't bother me.

I had headaches quite a lot this trip and wondered if the smell ha anything to do with it, even though I wasn't exposed to it that often.

I think it can set headaches off. When we went to Amsterdam in 2011, it wasn't an over the top pungent smell, but it was constantly there (which is to be expected) and I had an headache for the first 2 days of our trip. I think when I got used to the smell, the headache went away. Ciggy smoke drives my sinuses nuts, so when in Vegas, I try and find an area of the casino that isn't overbearing with the smell.
When we went to LV in 2016, it did pong of the herbal tobacco mainly near Planet Hollywood and Paris area. Each to their own if people partake, but when you ask for a non smoking room and you can actually smell it walking down the corridors and outside your door, it is annoying.

Funnily enough, when we went to Amsterdam, I didn't once notice the smell of weed, despite having 3 coffee shops right outside the hotel. That might give you an idea how bad my sense of smell is!

I have no problem with people using it and like you, each to their own. The problem is that it is only legal to use in a private residence so tourists can't legally use it. Not sure if things will improve once the smoking lounges open, but I doubt it.

Great trip report as always Stuie! Sorry about the losses and the weather. If it's any consolation, last time we went in September, it was 117F.

Last year we had wings at Hooters on our first morning and they were so good we went back again next day. This time they were bogging! Now bearing in mind that we struggle to fit in all the restaurants and eateries we want to go to in the 2 weeks we are there, it was a double blow. We haven't wasted time trying again. It also proved that it is hard to suggest or recommend places to other people. Mon Ami Gabi is another case. A lot of people love it, as we did years ago, but the last couple of times we were there it wasn't just sub-par, it was bad.
