The long washes are because they less water(most of the cost is heating) and as long as the wash performance meets criteria lower temperature as well.

This need longer to wash stuff, I think they also need to give the enzines longer to work.

The faster washes use more water so can wash quicker.

The longer wash is just to get the A+++. Washing machines washed fine before the ratings came out & they still wash fine even if you don't use the one program that gets the A+++ rating.
Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.
  • Hi,

The last Bosch machine I had lasted just over 2 years, we replaced with a siemens iq500 (mid range machine) which lasted just over 5 years... Randomly it was the door handle that broke. Overall I was really happy with the Siemens machine so we replaced with another (which has a new door handle design!)

We are a 6 person household so our use is above average.

They have to take longer because they use less water.

There are 2 different washes used to get the ratings

it is based a weighted measure of a mix 220 of 2 different cycles of wash, standby energy use and load size.

When you do some proper research the better rated machine do also tend to be more efficient(lower water and energy use) on the other washes as well

I had an Indesit from 1998 that lasted until 2010 and was still going strong then (ok it was an upgraded replacement for the Friday afternoon one I originally bought) until Mrs moved in and we replaced my old thing with her newer one.
Then approx. every 2 years something would go wrong and it'd be slightly more expensive to replace the machine than the part so bit the bullet and spent a grand on a Miele with a 20 year warranty - AO were doing a deal with an additional 10 years on the usual one.
1 fault so far repaired under the warranty and that was basically a software upgrade. Dishwasher is now also a Miele and when the tumble dies guess where I'll be looking.

I found this thread as we are in the same position but our Bosch has lasted 9 years... and I thought that was bad!

We are now trying to decide which one to get next but it will probably be Beko, it's only 2 of us and for me it's not a problem that it takes 2.5 hours.
