Hermes getting away with theft

In December I sold my 27” monitor on eBay and promptly dispatched to the buyer. After 10 days in the hands of Hermes it still showed as “with parcel shop” although the shop – Doddle in Canary Wharf - confirmed it was picked up the same day. They even called Hermes who confirmed this.
After a long wait on their chat I finally got through to someone confirming the parcel has been “deemed lost” in their depot. From the many complaints I’ve read, seems a lot of parcel go “lost” in the Hermes depot. I ask for the next steps and receive a claims form which has a link to non-compensation items – turns out monitors are one of these items. My claims form was rejected as they "don't compensate for monitors above 21 inch".
This makes sense from the point of view that these items are fragile and can break. Fine. But Hermes are solely responsible for the “loss” (theft) of my item. What they are saying is essentially that Hermes can get away with stealing monitors above 21 inch.
How easy it is to claim no responsibly for certain products and let their staff get away with theft. Absolutely disgusting – how this company is allowed to continue after the proven track record of “lost” parcels is beyond me.
They keep brushing me off using the non-compensation list argument - but does such a list really give them the right to get away with theft?!? I have never been robbed in my 42 years and now I'm expected to shut up and accept it. Not happening. Any idea what I can do as a start?
    Hello,
{Text removed by Forum Team}. Did you see the Channel 4 tv show (Joe Lycett's got your back) last week exposing them of dumping some 10% of parcels, many of which were clearly labelled and could have been delivered, into an auction house in Birmingham on a weekly basis? Do they pay back owners of these 'Missing" parcels, nope, or maybe the standard £20, but if they are able to sell an item of much higher value, where do these sales get recorded and WHY IS THIS COMPANY ALLOWED TO BLATENTLY STEAL AND CARRY ON TRADING?
I sold a shower on eBay, sales value £522, plus £8 postage fees. It never arrived. I had to refund the buyer and am out £530. I've been offered £25 as I hadn't opted for enhanced insurance. Why should we have to pay to protect ourselves from a companies ineptitude at doing their core business?

I really think there must be tens of thousands of us frustrated, disgruntled, customers who've been mugged by Hermes. It would be worth getting a class act together as this loophole of theft must be closed down.
Did you ever get anywhere with your case?
    Thanks,

Yeah, I saw it (2nd fave consumer show), unfortunately it’s still in my mind meaning if I see Hermes vans it’s instantly what I think of!

They don't lose 10% of their parcels if they did the Auction house you refer to would be receiving around 650000 parcels a week...

Exactly! If you watch the Channel 4 program, that's what you will see; multiple lorry loads per week dumping parcels to be sold off at auction. Hundreds of thousands of parcels 'missing'. How are they getting away with this? This is a total disgrace and massive loophole that needs to be addressed. There are many many upset customers out there.
    Not 650,000 of them!
  • Sorry to jump on this...

But the amount of people trying to defend Hermes is disgusting, the have a major track record of "losing" (stealing) parcels... it's a wonder how they are still allowed to operate seriously out of all the parcel companies out there not a single one of them has a record like Hermes do...

Its 2020 and people are still using them and parcels are still going "missing" after all the bad things to happen this year you would think people would learn.....

    It's an old thread.
I'm not sure if I've 'defended' Hermes up-thread but if I have it would only be to say that I have never had a problem with Hermes.
    Which is true.
    Not disgusting.

I prefer to have parcels delivered by Royal Mail as I'd rather pop to the sorting office if I miss a delivery than rearrange it.
But with some retailers you don't get a choice if courier.
I also use RM for parcels I send out.

But I can only speak as I find.
    That is not disgusting.

If people posting about their experiences and giving their opinions is disgusting then that means your condemnation of Hermes is just as disgusting.

How long before the accusations that we must work for Hermes...?

TBH, I'm far too busy working for Argos, Amazon, Jet2, TUI, Tesco , Sports Direct et al.

They continue to operate because they are cheap.  Firms don't want to pay anymore for delivery than they have to.

Here's the link to the investigation by Joe, which is quite interesting. Hermes definitely fail in their duty.

There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.
  • I’m really frustrated with Hermes. I sent my laptop away for repair. When it was sent back, somewhere along the route the Hermes label from the packaging was put onto a different (Amazon) package containing nose clips. This was subsequently delivered to my address and I have video of it being left in my porch by the courier. The computer company have contacted Hermes but they can’t locate the laptop and as far as Hermes is concerned they see that a tracked package has been delivered.
Meanwhile my laptop has gone. Incidentally,  its very difficult to contact Hermes and speak to a human.

Unless you were the one who paid for the shipping back directly then whoever repaired your laptop should be the one chasing Hermes, not you.  And ultimately if Hermes are refusing to refund then the repairer is going to have to compensate you for the loss of your laptop.
