Unrecordings, watch out for blight on your potatoes, using tomato compost. It has similar effect to repeat planting potatoes as they are the same family

Ah glad you said that - because that's what I always thought - but read the contrary somewhere recently

    I'll watch out

Why am I in this handcart and where are we going ?

You can co-plant them as they are both part of the nightshade family but if you get the blight fungus, you need to stick to the proper 4 year crop rotation to stop it "reoffending". I hope your treatment is not too disruptive this week. Thinking of you!

And finally, my seeds are starting to show through. I gave them an afternoon nap on top of the range to give them a little lift. Only the cayenne chillies are doing anything in the chilli and pepper tray but half the tomatoes are breaking through now, and some of every variety are there. I just love the little loops on the surface!

Exciting isn't it when all these tiny seeds start germinating. Such simple pleasures ! We do these things year after year but every spring it happens again and the pleasure never really diminishes.

And much cheaper than an expensive night out on the town !

    Hi All!

Had a busy weekend with parents visiting. Saturday was spent cleaning the house (in preparation) and potting on those seedlings that were ready (standard tomatoes and hot chillis, pumpkins etc), and passed some seedlings to the neighbour. The black tomatoes and stripy tomatoes have popped up, but don't have any second leaves yet.

Finally, the sweet peppers have all popped up this week! Yay! And the cucumbers have taken off this weekend and will need potting on this weekend. We also need to get the planter put together and into place etc.

Had a quick check on the garden and the strawberries survived all of the strong winds and rain. Luckily! And the transplanted rhubarb plant seems to be doing fine, and the raspberry cane has got several new shoots on it! So, they seem happy enough so far.

The sunflower seeds that DD sowed in a pot at her Nana's sprung up on Friday, so we've been getting daily picture updates from her until we next visit lol

Thanks - Going to reconsider those potatoes
Chemo should be pretty mild compared to what I'm used to (PCV which can wipe you out for two weeks). Hopefully I'll be back on a mission at the weekend: Got plenty of stuff to pot on - more tomatoes, padron peppers, sweet peppers are ready, but courgettes are still hiding. While the steroids are still doing their thing I might sort out grobags for the greenhouse next week

Well done Mnd. Sounds like you had a bit of a mare getting the van free though!

I forgot about my seedling fail. I assumed all of the potting trays had little drainage holes in the bottom, so had been placing top up water in the outer tray below that........yeah, there were no drainage holes, so my seedlings hadn't been watered in about 2 weeks!! lol I do wonder if that is why the pepper seeds didn't germinate until this weekend! haha Lesson learnt!

When I was little we picked up some manure from a local farm - help yourself kind of thing. I fell over in it...

In other news, forgot to mention that outdoors the rhubarb is coming along nicely - last year I planted a Glaskins Perpetual to replace the Victoria crowns that kept dying

Also the wild garlic is coming up quite nicely, as is the sorrel, and I can see lovage shoots just emerging. I also forgot to harvest my oca last autumn, so I'm going to see what can be salvaged, and put some in pots to keep the variety going

Why am I in this handcart and where are we going ?
