Pot risers - does anyone have any experience of using these to lift pots off hard surfaces please? I've just had some block paving put down and have been told that to avoid marks I have to use these. The ceramic ones are really quite expensive for the number of pots I have so I am looking at the much cheaper rubber ones. I'd welcome any comments of success or otherwise with these before I splash out.

Pot risers are designed to lift the pot off the ground to allow excess water to drain out, so they won't necessarily stop any staining. The (4 to a pot?) ceramic ones are also a pain to fit to large/heavy pots.

I use something similar to these - sturdy, and easy enough to hosepipe underneath them to swill away any dirty water before it stains.

I think whatever you do will cause a mark, the ceramic legs will just leave leg marks rather than a dirty big ring, and natural drainage from the pot will discolour the paving anyway.
Maybe try wine corks slit in half, curved side down ?

Why am I in this handcart and where are we going ?

My best mate is a 'man & van' on the side. He's always getting calls from other M&Vs who have dirty jobs and don't want to use their own clean van

Just checked up on my Chinese Mahogany seedlings (marketed by James Wong/Suttons) - I sowed them in the autumn so they were a little stunted over winter, but they've shot up in the last week, so I finally thought it safe to try a couple of leaves - WOW

Definite aroma of beef & onion crisps when you pick them, tasting a little cressy too. Will be superb in salads or ramen

...And aftertaste - definitely tastes like I've had some beef & onion crisps - maybe a hint of horseradish there too

Why am I in this handcart and where are we going ?

    Hello to all,

    How are we growing?
Not much happening in my seedlings bar a couple of chillies have popped up. So will take them out and out something else in the propagator.

Plot still too wet to do much, so today I'm thinking I will tackle clearing up in the garden.

    Hi All

Earlier today I tried to pric! (editor doesn't like that word!) out some flower seedlings that I sowed 5 different varieties to a big seed tray. The first problem I had was they germinated at different rates (even though I tried to sow those who germinate at similar speeds) therefore some where rather leggy.

I planted deep to resolve the leggy issue but some of the seedlings were so fine I suspect I might have killed them.

How do others go about growing seedlings that are far more delicate than for example a tomato seedling?

I did lots of different varieties but Ridolfia Goldspray is one example.
