I'm really sorry this is happening to you Carboot and I understand how worried you must be. I hope the surveyor does come on Monday and gives you an idea of exactly what you're dealing with.

Bear in mind that you have paid off debts of over £50,000 all on your own. That is what you are capable of. Whilst there is an excellent chance the insurance will cover it and I sincererly hope that they do, you and OH together as a team can tackle anything that comes your way.

You'll be in my thoughts and I hope that the outcome is better than you're worried it might be. Sorry if that sounds muddled :o.

  • Thank you so much for your encouragement and good wishes, beanielou, Karmacat and HHOD. I really appreciate your taking the time to post on my diary as you have busy lives of your own:A

My only news this morning is that I'm carrying on and doing the planned Table Top Sale:j. Getting a pitch there is an event in itself because it's such a good venue. I had so much else to do this past few days but didn't want to cancel the booking because I may not get another one if I'd let them down:eek:. Anyway, I'd already found some suitable saleable goods and want to declutter as much as possible before our building work chaos. I know a car-full isn't going to make much of a dent in the clutter mountain but every little helps:j. The sale starts at 9, set-up from 8.15 and I have a half hour drive to get there. I loaded the car after dinner last night so I'm ready to roll as soon as I've had a cup of tea. Let's hope the buyers turn out in force;)

Hopefully I'll be reporting later after counting my money. Have a good Saturday, everyone:beer:
  • Sorry to hear about the subsidence issues CBC and hoping the insurance pays out. Sounds to me like they ought to.
Looking forward to hearing how you got on at the Table Top Sale. Sounds like just the thing to take your mind off home and make some treat money into the bargain.

Sorry to hear you have a big crack in the floor. Lots of people are having similar problems because last summer was so dry and hot - especially houses on clay based soil. The ground contracted when dry - and if there are tree roots anywhere near, that can impact too. It is much better to get it looked at so you know what you are dealing with, and can get it dealt with appropriately.

I have never understood why underpinning (and other corrective works) impact on whether people can get a mortgage on a property - as for me it is an indicator that a home is being looked after, and any remedial work has been done.

We had some done at our old house and it was much better than I worried it would be. Try not to worry. You are on the first level of getting it sorted.

Sincere thanks to everyone for their concern and good wishes. It means so much to me that you took the time:A

Didn't get back on here yesterday but am flying in now just to say the Table Top Sale was brilliant. A nice sum of money made:j, a very much emptier car when I came home:j, and lots of happy and friendly interactions with buyers and other sellers:j. The whole experience really lifted my mood. I'll update my signature etc when I get a few minutes later. The organiser has accepted my booking for the next 2 planned sales too. I'm over the moon to have a foot in the door as pitches at that venue are like gold.

As my username might suggest:rotfl: I love car boot sales, the outdoor standing in an often windswept muddy field variety. They usually don't start up until Easter but because of the lovely weather one of our local-ish ones has decided to start their season today. OH saw an announcement about it in the local paper on Friday but didn't mention it until after dinner last night. I'd normally be cross that I didn't know about it and had too little time to get organised to go. Sadly, I have too much on at home at the moment:( to take advantage. I have too few items left over from yesterday to make it worth my while spending petrol and pitch fee today anyway and definitely had no time last night to dig out anything else.

It's really misty so far this morning, looks more autumnal than springlike:eek:, but if today is anything like how yesterday turned out we should be in for another lovely day. Whatever you're all planning to do I hope you have a great time and the sun shines on you:beer:
