Well done, CBC, it sounds brilliant! I hope it bears you up today in light of all the building/electrical shenanigans you're facing.

Well done on the tabletop sale. Our car boot has started early too today so we are off to flog some stuff!

    Good luck:beer:
  • I'm so glad the sale went well, and I'm loving the size of the treat fund - it must be so satisfying watching it gradually increase.

Your friend is making a difficult but necessary decision. I know when my brother's wife had to go into care, at a relatively young age, that it was impossible to look after her without professional help. Finding a good place was key, and they looked after her so well for 7 years. It sounds as if you have so much on your plate at the moment, that it was a relief not to go and see her, even though you were obviously willing to go and be a good friend.

Subsidence, kooky electrics - you don't do things by halves do you ? A wartime spirit may be the only approach to keep you going without resorting to screaming in the shed. On the other end of a pc, like all your subscribers, I wish I could be of help - I guess we have to make do with sending you 'power of the aether', and {{hugs}}.

Thank you :) It was a good turnout, not too many sellers but lots of buyers :)

That's often the way with the very early sales of the season. I know the ones I go to set up at about 5.30 a.m. and although it's getting light earlier it's still black at that hour:eek:. Plus, we've been having overnight frosts. The ice on my car windscreen still needed scraping off at 9. I think it takes a very dedicated seller to go through all that so early in the year. Well done to you for making the effort:beer:. You're braver than me. Often buyers turn up as they can leave it a bit later when at least there's already some daylight. I hope the buyers bought lots of your stuff:T. I think I'll delay my car boot selling until after Easter.

In the days when I was a novice car booter in the 1980s (and I always do them on my own) I used to get really scared and intimidated when I was setting up if it was still dark. The traders used to descend in force and target the obvious 'newbies' and would almost climb into my car boot as soon as I opened it, shining their torches on/in the still full boxes hoping to snap up a bargain for next to nothing:eek:.

Thank you very much, Elizabeth. Your positive vibes have reached me safely through cyberspace:T. I feel a lot more cheerful about the situation today. I don't know why as nothing has changed much. The structural engineer/surveyor appointed by the insurers phoned as promised this morning and has made an appointment to visit on Thursday afternoon. He's travelling from a city over 100 miles away so I hope he doesn't think we are wasting his time:eek:. At least things are beginning to move, and not just the foundations:rotfl:

My friend is doing a sterling job caring for her brother but she is at a low ebb anyway after losing her husband last autumn. She is a fair bit older than me, now 80, and is finding the physical effort a real strain. Her brother is physically fit and strong and has to be restrained when he gets into one of his rages. He was always such an even tempered chap but as we understand it frustration and anger are prevalent with his condition. Her son is coming over from Canada (where he now lives) as he's speaking at a conference and has extended his stay so he can spend a week or so with her and his uncle to see if he can help in any way. I'm so pleased that your brother's wife had such wonderful care. It must have been such a weight off everyone's mind as placing a loved one into the care system goes with a lot of guilt.

Your poor friend, CBC we were very lucky that my dad never had any of the mood swings and rages - he was always a kind, gentle man, and he stayed that way.

I'm glad you're feeling better - and I'm perfectly sure the surveyor won't think you're wasting his time!

  • I'm glad you feel more cheerful Carboot and that the surveyor is coming :T. It's always good to know exactly what it is that you're dealing with.

It must be so difficult for your friend, I do feel sorry for her. She's lost her husband and now she must feel as though she's losing her brother (his mind anyway). I do hope she can get some help soon.

The ones we sell at now tend to have later starts. We do an afternoon one mostly but this was a morning one. We used to do an early one, but that has gone downhill and now we've got the kids it's not so easy.

I hate the people who pile into the car. I've got very proficient at shutting the boot again if they come near and telling them to get out. I also bump up the prices when they ask :D I tell them if it's still there later, they can try again. There is nothing worse than seeing someone sell something for a pittance to a trader who has intimidated them when I would have paid the original price they were asking for.
