Personally, I get on better with the height weight charts. My target weight is bang in the middle of the healthy weight for my height.

    https://www.nhs.uk/live-well/healthy-weight/height-weight-chart/

Many 'experts' have discredited BMI. It'll be interesting to know whether the chart suggests a different healthy weight for your height. What really matters is if you're fit and free of health risks caused by being overweight like diabetes and strain on joints.

I had a look at this and it puts me just below half way in the overweight range. Whereas the BMI one put me quite a bit more above the half way of overweight I still need to get below 14st to get into the healthy weight range....I suppose I could do that but I would be very lean with not much fat on me....I can but give it a go....I would say I am quite healthy. I walk every day, that is brisk walking for an hour with the dog. 125 Steps a minute I worked it out to. I am very fortunate that I have never suffered with an illness apart from the odd cold.
    Thank you

I don't recommend getting back to target this way though. It's really not a good way of doing it :(

    Sorry that you are struggling.

Stoke, You are not alone, we all suffer mentally at times. I don't know the answer why only stresses of life, money worries, work stresses, family worries and many other things. They all take its toll on us. Sharing is best not that your worries can be solved but the support often helps us through bad times. Just take a look at the positive things in your life and grow on those. Keep going, don't give up.

    Great loss marmite.

I use the super BMI as a guide.
I am still overweight with the traditional BMI, not that it bothers me.
Way too many other things to worry about , rather than that.

If it is this one you are referring to then I am just about okay

    https://www.smartbmicalculator.com

It says I need to lose another 4lb

    Weight management

The best you can do is eat healthy food and increase your fitness. This will boost your health, whatever the case. If you lose weight in the process, all the better.

With a weight loss of 4 pounds down to a target weight of 14 stones 12 pounds, you would reach your optimal weight range.

    Nutrition

Eat a variety of foods that you like, optimally including five servings of fruit and/or vegetables a day. Avoid eating too sweet, too fat and too much.

You have never been on a specific diet

Well done. The best diet is "no diet", as long as the body is getting a well-balanced, mainly plant-based mix of carbohydrates, fats, proteins, minerals, vitamins and enough, but not too much energy.

    Physical activity

Do physical exercise at least for half an hour daily at moderate to vigorous intensity. Walking or cycling may be better for your joints than jogging.

I am glad someone is of the same opinion as me.....I played rugby, admittedly it was a while ago. Sadly some of the muscle and physique has gone..:rotfl:

Just prepared the veg for this evenings meal. On the subject of veg. I was in Asda yesterday looking for a swede...You can get whole swede, half swede and ready prepared chopped swede. Both the whole swedes and half swedes were around 500g or below where as the chopped prepared swede was 400g. The difference was that the prepared swede was 37p whereas the other two were 50p. Taking into account the preparation and loss of weight when the whole/half swede is prepared and the preparation itself. I have come to the conclusion that it is a no brainer not to buy it ready prepared. Great for adding to soups too...I just thought I would share this useless bit of information with you all...:D

Not useless at all, but if you don't compare the prices and go immediately for the complete veg you'd end up out of pocket

B Porridge/half Banana What do you do with the rest of the banana?
L Chicken and bacon soup for lunch
D Two sausages, stuffing ball and lots and lots of veg.

    Snacks. Various fruit

I'm sorry to hear you're struggling. Be kind to yourself, and I hope you have some support to help you through. Agree with the advice that talking is helpful. Sometimes we just need to have our concerns validated by another person, or to just know we are heard.

    Thanks mamam

These charts always feel like a slap in the face with the truth to me :( I need to lose 3st just to be in the 'normal' range of any of them. However, my OH is 6ft and in the gym 5 days a week, measures as a large chest 44/46" with a 32" waist, but on the BMI he is considered overweight. This is ridiculous, because he is muscular, but very slim. Proof enough that they need to be taken with a pinch of salt. Whilst I agree that being a healthy weight is what we would all want to be ideally, if a normal body type, being healthy in itself is also an ideal.

  • Not tried them Beanie - I'm guessing they must be like oven chips? I invested in an air fryer last year and do my own chips like that now.

Some of you mentioned the Diet Cola Gammon not long back, and I think a seed must have been planted because I really fancy trying it at the weekend. I've found this recipe online - does that look about right? Then do you just serve it like pulled pork, will it go with hasselback potatoes and salad? Will I need to soak the gammon in advance to make it less salty? Thanks for any tips anyone can give! :D

    Today:
    B - None
    D - Mushrooms on toast
    T - Speedy turkey bolognese
    HEA - Milk, cheese
    HEB - 2x WM crustless
Syns - Sugar in coffee (4), butter on toast (3), hot choc (2) = 9
    Weightloss: 14.5/65lb
  • Sary Lots of people ask me about my Banana.....I have it the next morning with my Porridge...:o

Tete, I cooked this at Xmas

Not looked at your recipe but I cooked mine in full fat Coke with some quartered Oranges. Once cooked I let it cool before slicing oranges. Covered the bacon joint with the sliced oranges fixing them in place with 4/5 Cloves and roasted it in the oven for a while..This is depending on the size joint you have...

I didn't pull mine like shown in your recipe....Just let it go cold and sliced as normal.. I must say that your recipe looks rather tasty...I will definitely be giving that one a go...Thank you

    Hope this helps..
