Great post esmy
I'm doing SW from home atm, and have old books (2 sets - shows how long I've been attempting to shift my lard!) and like you suggest, I try to google syns for products as best I can. If the principles of SW are being followed as much as possible, I feel that I'm at least trying my best, and that's all any of us can do I guess.
Today's EE Plan:
B - alpen light HEB; banana, dolce gusto (2)
L - CG tomato soup (2); coconut Kvarg & apple (1.5)
D - chicken/mushroom pasta in tomato sauce (4)
snacks - satsuma; apple
HeA1 - milk in teas/coffee; HEA2 cheese on pasta
I felt quite hungry this afternoon, so it was nice to have a filling dinner like pasta. I did say to my work colleague though, even while I was feeling really peckish that it made a nice change to actually be eating when I feel hungry, and not just grazing all day long like I would usually do.
I'm another one who's started to eat healthily and have now broken out in spots, and have an ulcer on the roof of my mouth.
Ordinarily at night I would be planning what food I'd be looking forward to eating the next day, or what I might buy in the supermarket when I went shopping. Trying to change that way of thinking, the last few nights I have either been reading until too sleepy to keep my eyes open, or laying in bed visualising what it will be like to be slimmer. That actually felt good, so I am hoping it will help to keep my resolve, which was a long time coming to start again with the plan. One day the clocks will stop, and time won't mean a thing

Evening all, I love reading about everyone’s food diaries
Well done on the PPI gets, that’s amazing! And Tete, I love the idea of a promise rather than a resolution. I’ve promised to do my physio excercise once a day, for 30 days through January. The plan is I’ll be so used to doing them by then that I’ll carry on whereas at the moment when I really can’t be bothered I can think, it’s just tonight, and I do it. Amazin how you can trick yourself when you know you’re doing it :rotfl:
So WI. I was so expectant. I’ve been so good all week, and it’s star week, and I’m feeling yuk, but I was hopeful. Maintain  Could have been worse but. So, came home and ate lots of nuts and raisins, oh, and chocolate  I’m blaming star week! Back on it tomorrow...

SW from Home – going it alone!
I made a new year’s resolution to make this post, primarily for those who are following SW without attending a group or having online membership. I know that many people find the support offered through the groups invaluable, and this isn’t intended to be critical of SW groups, just a few tips that have helped me in following SW from home.
1. Get hold of the new members pack if you can. This will explain how SW works and give all the information you need to get started. A new plan has just been issued so there should be some older ones around. They often appear on ebay, (304 starter packs on there today!) or you may know someone who attends group and isn’t using their older one. People have lost weight happily on the older plans. I’ve also seen it suggested to join a group (there are often discount vouchers in women’s magazines) , get the pack and carry on at home.
2. Get some good scales. Bathroom scales are inexpensive – I have these https://www.argos.co.uk/product/5546851. Don’t weigh too often – our weight varies naturally throughout the day and from day to day. Once a week is fine. Or you can check your weight in some Boots branches (too public for me!)
3. Use kitchen scales and measuring spoons – don’t try to guess what 40g of oats or a teaspoon of honey looks like.
4. Keep a notebook – for meal planning, recording your weight, noting syn values of the things you eat regularly and any recipes you want to keep. You don’t need anything fancy but there are fancy ones about if that’s your preference. There are also lots of reward charts, £1 for each 1lb lost etc on ebay . Award your own ‘shineys’ by planning non food treats for each ½ stone lost. Take a ‘before’ photo if you haven’t got one already – you don’t have to show it to anyone!
5. Adapt meals that you or your family enjoy already, for example, use frylight instead of other oils/fats, use lower fat meats, add veg to meals wherever you can (grated carrot/courgettes disappear in a Bolognese).
6. Recipes – there are hundreds of recipes easily found on the web. Slimmimg World has some of its own recipes online but others I use regularly are Pinch of Nom, Two Chubby Cubs and Slimmimgeats. And of course there are lots in the first post on these threads.
7. Syn values – again there are lots of resources on the web. Some do not keep up with SWs ‘official’ syn values, which do change quite regularly, and sometimes inexplicably! I’ve found that googling the food followed by syn value, rather than putting syn value first, gets better results. Some sites have lists of foods from particular supermarkets with syn values.
8. Facebook – loads of groups related to SW, for additional support and ideas. I follow one for Aldi shoppers but there are recipe groups, syns help, SW on a budget etc etc.
9. Last but very definitely not least, the support on this fantastic thread. Without it, I would not have got to target. Always helpful, always friendly and tons of knowledge – Thank you all.
Anyone think this should be in first post every new thread ? Its brilliant thank you esmy0 -

As long as you realise that your weight loss won't be as successful doing this; don't let slow progress put you off SW altogether because when you stick to it consistently it does work.
That said, I cracked last night and had three bags of Hula Pufts (10.5 syns)I did manage to stop myself before eating the rest of the multipack though and that is a massive achievement for me
. I was low on syns on Monday so hopefully I might get away with it.

Did you mention this in response to my cold sore? It's weird isn't it, we're meant to be glowing with health! :rotfl:And Tete, I love the idea of a promise rather than a resolution. I love that: "Just for today", makes everything seem much more manageable.
I've done my C25K Run 2, it was freezing! Muscles are starting to protest all the exercise a bit now so going to run myself a hot bath with some epsom salts - the perks of unemployment.
Today:
B - Banana
D - Salad as yesterday: Tuna, boiled egg, carrot, beetroot, cucumber, cherry toms
T - Carbonara*
HEA - Milk, maybe 20g low fat cheese on my pasta (that's 1/4 the total allowance)
HEB - Not sure, maybe some pumpkin seeds on my salad?
Syns - Sugar in coffee (4), hot choc (2) = 6 - hopefully leave it at that after yesterday's indiscretion!
Exercise: 2 mile run/walk
*Thought I'd add how I make my carbonara for any newbies who might think it's too creamy to be syn free. I use bacon (fat removed), onion and mushrooms (controversial but I love them and they're speed - they do make the sauce slightly grey looking though!), and I beat an egg with about a tablespoon of fat free fromage frais and black pepper for the sauce, which makes it Free. Stir the sauce into hot cooked pasta then add the bacon etc last. I buy a big carton of fromage frais and freeze small portions of it so none gets wasted. Obviously now we can add in parmesan or other cheese as part of HEA too which will make it even tastier!
Right I'm off for my bath, have a good day all!Weightloss: 14.5/65lb0 -
