Just going to have a cuppa and get comfy with my book.
    I'm not a muggle...I'm just magically challenged
  • Thanks for the list Natty.. I am in for this week, though still not feeling 100%, it's been lurking and dragging on for ages, especially the earache!
The decorations are down, sorted through and in the loft, thanks to DS1's help, he even vacuumed through downstairs and washed up :j
Sorted lots of lists, diary/calendar entries and paperwork..
Off to bed.. Had no idea it was this late:eek:

Thank you for the new thread, Natty, and for last week's, Valli.

    :bdaycake:
Just in time to wish roundtuit's DS many happy returns of today.

Welcome back to old friends

    Well done Jazee :T:T:T

Well done to all who have been flying this week. I have too, but more in the way of restoring order after another visit today from DS2 and family today, plus DD and family staying overnight. The house is now tidy again and I am even up to date with washing - and will have to iron 3 church tea towels tomorrow in order to complete the 2018 ironing challenge :rotfl: Woe betide **anyone** who does not live up to the high standards demanded by the senior members of the congregation :eek::eek: - even though none of them helped with serving coffee today or washing up afterwards ;)

DH had a disaster yesterday evening when he knelt down to get a bottle of whisky out of the back of a cupboard, had great difficulty getting up again so leaned extremely heavily on the shelf above, which had some of my Portmeirion pottery dinner/tea service on it, and of course the shelf collapsed. He was lucky that only four small plates and bowls broke, but all of the bottles underneath survived :o He has told me that he will pay for the replacements, so he is forgiven (I think he has learnt his lesson the hard way).

I am planning to return to SW on Tuesday as I bought and cooked too many treats, so have been eating up DH's share of the leftovers as well as my own. My resolution is to lose "a pound at a time" until I get down to a weight where I feel comfortable again.

Rosie was given a squeaky squirrel toy by DGS1+2. She ignored it for most of the time they were here, but this evening it has become her favourite toy - it has a long fluffy tail which is great for swinging it round the study!

I have knitted the second wise man and started the third, but have run out of gold thread and lilac wool, so I will have to pay a visit to the local craft shop tomorrow.

I also need to transfer my calendar onto my new-to-me phone and my desk diary (backup!). DH and I are trying to share a phone calendar, but we can't get it to work atm :mad: I hate new technology!

    We're in.

As Himself had a party to DJ for this afternoon and we were both up by 10am, I gradually started on things [strike]mainly because the kitchen was minging AGAIN[/strike]

Monday - New Years Eve,a bit of everything!
    Level 1

[STRIKE]Remove all the bits and bobs that don't belong here[/STRIKE] - are you expecting guests and do you have adequate seating? No guests, but it's nicer [strike]for the cats[/strike] to have a choice. Idiot Cat still has his cardboard box stable with his new catnip mouse and his tinsel lined basket on another box.
[STRIKE]Rehoming - find a convenient spot and gather up all the new and existing items that need a home. Spend 10 min sorting into piles according to which room they will go to. Maybe pop them in old carrier bags and enlist some help to "deliver" them to the right homes![/STRIKE] Christmas tablecloths removed and put away, assorted gibble on the table put away.
    Level 2
Dust and deweb all through downstairs
    Sweep or vac too
Tidy your tree or xmas decs - are all the chocs eaten? Can you dust around / under? No action required. Himself is looking forward to getting rid - as am I where the really tacky stuff is concerned. Not fussed by the ivy garland of the holly arrangement, because they're almost like having pot plants again (I really miss having loads of plants) but they'll end up in the garden soon enough.
    Level 3
[STRIKE]Sort through the fridge - any leftovers that need to be binned? [/STRIKE] Done once, next time will be to clean/wash the trays (I have trays rather than racks).
[STRIKE]Wipe down all the kitchen counters and the sink[/STRIKE]
S&S the downstairs loo / cloak.

    Extras
      [STRIKE]
    • Sort your laundry...[/STRIKE] One half load left to do. Did the rest today.
      [STRIKE]
    • Start the ironing! Sort it into 4 piles and do the first one![/STRIKE] Ironing? :rotfl:
    • Treat yourself to something light and healthy for lunch - do you have time for HM soup? Spicy Parsnip is a definite possibility [strike]now I've found the rest of the bag underneath the crud on the countertop going wrinkly[/strike]

Monstrous amount of recycling dumped outside. It's about 15 foot from the top of the freezer to the recycling bins. Why stock up?
    Sink degrotted and scrubbed
Washing up done properly (only 5 bowls worth today)
    Hob degreased
Tiles wiped over. Going to need to get some sugar soap, as the extractor casing feels icky. They sell it round the corner, unfortunately the diluted version instead of dry, but I'll make do.
    Appliance tops and fronts cleaned.

After Himself got back, he did mention that he's pleased/grateful that it's been done. Another of those [strike]ultimately pointless[/strike] chats where I remind him I spent 17 years cooking for 4 people, 3 cats and a dog in a kitchen where my worksurface was a whole two foot across and storage consisted of a single small wall cupboard, so I am used to cleaning up as I go, rather than leaving it all to the end - which, as he says, makes it a huge job which is then left until the next time [strike]and the next - until a week has passed and I'm ragecleaning on my day offs and still never see a clean kitchen[/strike]

Thanks Natty list suits my Monday perfectly no guests thankfully still too much CHAOS

Had a large argument with OH so maybe not going out tomorrow. Kicked up a stink that I don’t get along with his mother so I should only go if I am drinking alcohol and staying over. Surely that’s saying don’t go in not so many words as I said I would drive. Anyway I’ve decided not to engage in the argument bes saying when I spend time with them apparently I complain. Contrary is I usually am the one not sat sour faced and trying to make conversation. His parents have caused more arguments than I care to think of over the years so I’m not letting the fact he wanted to do this new year with them cause another. He’s also moaned that I dare to sort laundry in the sitting room. Looking for arguments and I’m not interested

Right moaning over. I’ve managed another 4 wash loads and more to do. Best finish some bits and get to bed
One day I might be more organised...........
    GC: £200
Slinkies target 2018 - another 70lb off (half way to what the NHS says) so far 25lb
  • WM sounded like it was about to reach takeoff velocity as it finished the last wash. When I took the clothes out, they weren't particularly well spun, either, so need time in the TD rather than hanging up on the clothes horse. All rather ominous - until I took the last couple of things out and heard a metallic TW-ANGGGGGGGGGG. Yep. A stray underwire - from my most comfortable and best looking bra - half in the drum (just as well I'm more of a 2 pinter than a teacup, as a smaller wire would have disappeared into the mechanics of the thing).

Himself had a fit when he heard me call out that I'd found the problem, but looked far more relieved after thundering downstairs when I showed him the offending item. [strike]The suggestion that I could still wear the bra and he'd provide suitable support on the left side got shot down with the Glare of Death[/strike].

He's on downstairs bathroom, SC and mopping duty tomorrow.
I will deal with upstairs bathroom, vacuuming upstairs and random cleaning & polishing. Because I like those jobs.

Really must go to bed, though. My sleep pattern is already screwed (been awake until 5am and 7am twice this week) and it's only 7 days until work starts again.

  • *slinks in, takes chair at the back.....yes, I am in. I hope the old faithfuls are still here if only lurking x

new years resolution, I am back after an 18 month absence. New house, still unpacking boxes. My homehelp is out sick atm, so flying is all down to me. Getting back on the list will help.
The cold never bothered me anyway
  • Aaannnnnd...I'm still awake.

This is crap. And I'm hungry.
