I used to be rubbish at saving and have improved over the last few years by completing (or trying to complete) the challenges. Thanks to all of those who set the challenges up to keep us all focused :j
This last year, I've been stricter with myself and my level of outgoings has reduced to finally leave me with some wriggle room. I still panic a bit when I know payments are going out but at least I'm not losing too much sleep over it these days.
2020 will see at least 2 credit cards reduced to zero (first time in more years than I care to remember) - so looking forward to that. That will only leave 2, so will snowball them and hopefully get those done and dusted by the end of 2021.
It is a good feeling
I work part time now after some health issues so money is much tighter than it has been. I've been "finding" extra cash by doing surveys, my take on Tilly Tidies, cutting back the grocery budget and just being careful and focussed.

Well I still have to work at it. It’s so easy to come off plan and that’s when things go wrong. With the changes due on overdraft charges coming soon, I think I will need to finally clear my two ODs first. They are nearly in the black - it’s just staying there.£2 coin savings club 2024 #1 £0 (2023 £754; 2022 £472; 2021 £256; 2020 £358; 2019 £512; 2018 £404; 2017 640)Saving for Xmas 202 £1 a day #4 £365 / £365 3-6 month emergency fund challenge #48 £2,377 Save a penny a day 2024 #32 £ . / £667.95 £1000 emergency fund challenge #232 £1,007/ £1,000 (achieved Nov 2020)0 -
I’ve not been good with this challenge at all :-( did manage to save a couple of hundred but the car needed fixing. I’m not going to do this challenge next year but it has spurred me on to set myself my own challenge. I’m spending the first 5 months of saving a % of my wages before deductions eg month 1 = 1% month 2 = 2% etc then on month 6 it’s 5% month 7 4% etc. Omitted November and December wage as this is when I tend to see to Xmas and have a couple of extra expenses like Xmas nights out. Congratulations to all who managed the challenge and good luck to all those doing it next year :-)0

Well done on your savings Blackberrycurved. Every penny helps at such an expensive time of year.
I also hope this challenge runs next year. I’m running it backwards (strictly this time) and already have £108.81 in my pot. It’s been hard to do without it especially with Christmas being upon us, but don’t want to play catch up all like I did last year. If I’m honest, my savings from last year’s challenge easily paid for Christmas this year and allowed for a few treats - all without increasing credit card debt :T£2 coin savings club 2024 #1 £0 (2023 £754; 2022 £472; 2021 £256; 2020 £358; 2019 £512; 2018 £404; 2017 640)Saving for Xmas 202 £1 a day #4 £365 / £365 3-6 month emergency fund challenge #48 £2,377 Save a penny a day 2024 #32 £ . / £667.95 £1000 emergency fund challenge #232 £1,007/ £1,000 (achieved Nov 2020)0
