Evening, unfortunately I've had to use the monies which I have saved up so far since Christmas, £275 in total. It has gone towards a new carpet and underlay for our daughter's bedroom, so it's definitely for a good cause! I'm no. 13 on the list of participants.
  • Somehow I did it wrong!

I was doing it backwards and last month ended up with 621 in the account.

tonight I added enough to make it 670 and will (somehow) aim to make it 1000 to be my 2020 emergency fund...

Definitely doing it next year. It has been great. :)

thanks for running the thread XXX
    Nevertheless she persisted.
  • Still going but way behind where I should be. Nevertheless, #26 is now up to £177.80.

    Progress is progress :):):)

I think that anything saved is better than nothing. Even if you don't succeed in the challenge goal, you're still challenging yourself.

I'm still loving this and I'm not an official member! :)
    Mortgage at 12/07/2022 = £175,000
    Mortgage today = £161,690.76
    300 271 payments to go.
    House buyout fund £21,000/£40,000
  • There are some great variations you can do on this theme.
Save the date is another one.
    e.g. 01/09/19 = 1+9+19 = 29p
If you bank with Monzo, they integrate with IFTTT and this is then all automated for you. They've also automated the 1p challenge, the reverse 1p challenge and a few others.
  • Finally completed this challenge. Been quite tough at times but now have more than enough to thoroughly enjoy the festive season without having to use the credit card.

I’ve already purchased my pot for 2020 and deposited my first months payment of £108.81 (I’m doing it backwards) and putting in a whole month at a time. Last year I put in amounts when I had the change but wasn’t very strict with myself and got very behind which has been a devil to overcome.

Hope everyone else got to the finishing line.

I only made it half way but that's still £300 odd more than I would have had, had I not tried.

Think I might do this next year off the grid.

  • Its a good feeling to have some money put aside isn't it girlatplay.

I used to be rubbish at saving and have improved over the last few years by completing (or trying to complete) the challenges. Thanks to all of those who set the challenges up to keep us all focused :j

This last year, I've been stricter with myself and my level of outgoings has reduced to finally leave me with some wriggle room. I still panic a bit when I know payments are going out but at least I'm not losing too much sleep over it these days.

2020 will see at least 2 credit cards reduced to zero (first time in more years than I care to remember) - so looking forward to that. That will only leave 2, so will snowball them and hopefully get those done and dusted by the end of 2021.
