Amara - the best way to work out how many calories you need is to do a TDEE calculator, if you google it there are loads you can use.
It uses your age/current weight/gender/ activity level to work out approximately how many calories you use in an average day.
You can the use that to work out your goal, to lose weight you are going to need to reduce the intake. I just -500 and try to work to that.
I use My fitness pal all the time and really like it to track the calories/exercise. Personally I think the MFP calorie recommendations are a bit low and input my own. I find there is no point trying to reduce it massively, I will fall face down into a packet of chocolate biscuits that way. Much better to eat a bit more and consistently stick to better habits. But of course each to their own.0 -
Hi Maman. I use Fitatu. It shows I should consume at least 1600kcal.
Littlegreenparrot, thank you for your reply. I just checked on said caluclator and it says I need 1712 calories to maintain my weight. So 1212kcal per day to lose weight? It sounds really low, I feel I'll hungry all the time and won't stick to the plan0 -
Afternoon all - just skimmed througn. I've a rotten cough & cold and feel pants at the moment. Hair is a mess and needs a wash and I've not done any basic maintenance for the last 3 days let alone fabbing!
I think it's on the way out as I've had a lazy day and a nap and do feel a bit more human!
Humpty - do hope your nasty cold sore is starting to heal up - they really are a PITA
Lovely to have some newbies on the thread - always plenty of encouragement and good tips/advice.
Retired lady - an American colleague of mine once said you English ladies never split your suits up - and she was right! Too often we only wear the jacket with the trousers or skirt instead of using them separately. I'm 73 in a few months and 5'11'' so I wear skinny jeans although I prefer straight ( don't want to look like shades of Max Wall lol)
I have an extensive collection of scarves and pashminas to 'key' in with tops etc. I'm also another one who only exposes one area of flesh when glammed up - usually legs or back as I only acquired a cleavage in later life it never feels comfortable for me . As for style icons I agree with the others that have been proposed but for ladies who are 'vertically challenged' I've always admired Judi Dench's style - she looks elegant and age appropriate.
Right off to put some Bio oil on my face and neck to counteract the drying effects of this cold xSmall victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -
silvasava, thanks I think it is starting to heal, not so vivid today but as it is darker it looks a bit like a Hitler moustache, not a look I would choose if I'm honest! I did venture out, went to M&S and bought som,e nice things to eat, haven't felt like cooking for nearly two weeks so food hasn't been great so I think it will do me good.
I still feel exhausted, never felt like this after a cold before even after flu I felt better than this. Hope it doesn't go on for much longer.
I like Judi Dench, for the last couple of years I've had my hair like hers but I'm growing it out a bit at the moment. Haven't really decided what I want to do with it but feel like a change. I had a short Twiggy crop when I was young, then had a Purdy, a Lion cut, a curly perm (disaster) a bob, an inverted bob in fact I've probably had every style known to man. At least I'm not stuck in a rut!0 -
You don't have to go that low though, a smaller deficit will just mean it takes a bit longer.
Maybe try going down to 1500, if 1600 isn't working for you, and see how you go.
You could also try upping the activity, walking more for example, longer runs or an extra one. Yoga, swimming, circuit training will all help change shape even if weight doesn't change that much.
You could also try and look at what you're eating, some people find reducing bread helpful for example, or having more fruit and veg.
I do better now I don't have dairy.
Whatever you decide to try give it a few weeks, sadly it always goes up quicker than it goes down!0 -
Hello everyone
Went and bought a load of fruit today to nibble on at work along with my water. I have very curly hair which I usually leave natural but actually took the time to straighten (just top layer) this morning. Underneath is still curly but straight bit combed over - bit of a change.
Lemonade_money - I actually think you are doing very well already - your hair is dyed (I do mine with a box every month), makeup is on and perfume sprayed! Just hold that head up and learn to 'pat yourself on the back' when you do something for yourself. Hint: some good music and a wee jig around the kitchen helps no end!!!!:rotfl:0 -
Still here, makeup has been on every day this week. I’m using an Origins tinted moisturiser instead of foundation at the minute and have to say I really like it. Going to see how long it lasts to see if it’s worth a repurchase.0

Littlegreenparrot, I weight this morning and I lost 0.5kg or 1 pound from 1st January. I'm not sure it's not a water, though. But if it's a weight loss, that's fine. I would prefer faster loss, but 1 pound in 10 days means 36 pounds in a year0

Well done! In that case keep doing what you're doing.
If you find it slows down you just need to switch it up again and see what works.
Have you tried interval training? You can do it with running, swimming, cycling whatever. It just means you go faster for short periods then slow down. It can really ramp up the calorie burn in the same amount of time. I sometimes do it between the lamp posts, or set timer on phone app. You can definitely feel it working :rotfl:0 -
Littlegreenparrot, I didn't try it yet, but I will.0
