I think the bone density one is the only one I'd be interested in. Do they do the DEXA test, it isn't clear in their literature.

I think the point the GP was making was some of the tests they do aren't very good and don't mean much if they don't have your medical history. I do understand his point, my BP is naturally low, I have seen nurses look a bit panicky when they take it and I have to say it is normally low and then they check my notes and agree it is normal for me.

MY BP is naturally on the high side of normal, sometimes going over into 'raised' (which it was on the screening) - but normal for me. So therefore I won't bother telling my GP about it.

But I will ask her about the kidney function test that came out with amber flags. It might be nothing and I hope it is not. But if it IS an indicator of something, it has been caught early.

I'm glad I had the screening and may have one every year from now on. I can't imagine why someone would not want one. I don't suppose they would object to having their car serviced.

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton
  • I might ask them if they would just do the bone density test, can't see why they would turn down the money. I think they do it in a local hotel, I've thrown the leaflet out but I think that is what is says, so would be more convenient for me than the place I was going to which is a longer drive.

The kidney result might be nothing to worry about, in that article the GP got an amber for kidney function but he spoke to a colleague who is a kidney specialist and he said his result was fine. I think he said it was slightly low (or it might have been high) for a 20 year old but was fine for someone over 60. Hopefully yours will be similar.

My GP does a well person check up for over 60s, it is free and I was told my heart age is younger than my actual age which was nice.

I think none density tests are important. My work is very keen on health and wellbeing
Last year we had a talk o osteoporosis. The speaker to.d is that the NHS doesn't routinely do bone scans for suspected osteoporosis even in the case of multiple brzks and fractures. We were told to do weight bearing exercises and plenty of brisk walks.
I have also had a health screen but it was just weight and cholesterol. My cholesterol levels were high and at the time I was classified as obese so I was given some info and referred back to my GP who just repeated the tests and gave me the same info.

This week I have booked a dentist appointment. To borrow I am going to walk to town and back 40 mins each way and uphill all the way home. Now I am going to give myself a manicure.

Ps vodka which good luck I'm the new job.

    Happy fabbing everyone.
  • I should look into an overall blood test to monitor all functions, however I still need to get a gp. Unfortunately in my town medical services are busy; they have loads of vets with the most modern premises. I might need to borrow the neighbours' dog and pretend the dog has my symptoms. (i have .. no fido has a cough) Around here the vets are world class as many of the thoroughbreds are very valuable and very well cared for.

Many of the tests are a snap shot and often changes in levels can be very informative as sudden rises from a baseline can be more informative for certain conditions. It is a pity that the local gp can't provide a more sophisticated service. My private insurance offers check ups and I might avail depending on timing. Ideally they should allow more pay as you go options in house, as a money spinner. I guess I am used to if you want it you pay for it in relation to medicine having lived in America.

lessons- h pylori tests are simple to do and cheap. I don't understand why she refused as it is easy to treat the h pylori bacterial infection with antibiotics. It is a really common thing.

I wore more tailored clothes and feel better for it. I think i discovered a smoky eye I am able to do easily, sparkly liquid eye shadow, loads of black eyeliner in felt and lash on the dull brown over, it sounds horrific but genuinely blends out well. I can do it with one eye closed- terrible joke. It works for me as I have no the best vision with no glasses so need every cheat i can get.

    Evening everyone .
LL well done on your finds , what colours are the tea set ? im just trying to picture it , Ive always used my pottery . even though some of it is over 100 years old , what has been handed down through the family , Im not posh or Downton Abbey, but ive always used Tureen dishes etc, ( Only one in my family to do it , they think im crackers) but always have , When the kids were at school id put dinner in them on the work top , and everyone would help themselves and nuke it in the microwave , job done , The crockery and fine glasses are on a dresser........... and get taken off to be used and then put back after , SO FAR weve never had a breakage , but i think its so nice to use them instead of have them as ornaments , but thats just me ,
( We have regular mugs and pots too lol ) the paintings sound absolutely beautiful , and one offs, well done , theyll give you pleasure every time you look at them .

Seven-day-weekend , youve given me a much needed kick up the bum , ALL my sats came back bad. high blood pressure ( Which i know about and have it treated) high cholesterol , i have heart problems etc etc etc , and i KNOW i need to lose weight , but you reminded me that the weight builds up around the internal organs not just the visible on the outside of the body, , and thats not good for anyone but more so me with the health problems , I really need to get my act together to lose this weight as quick as i can ,
MSE news i got 2 lovely tops from the Chazza for £2 & £2.50 . ive worn one already and had lots of compliments, still sorting clothes and make up , but finding it easier to pare down "Stuff" i dont want , Thanks everyone for keeping me motivated , now to sort this weight out
Im not making excuses , but ive had the flu bug too , and still got the cough , Its lingered for weeks , but im finally feeling better so onwards and upwards xx

Hi Molly, it's not toothpaste. I had a mouthpiece made by dentist a couple of years ago, you use this with the gel, wear it overnight. I think that's what puts me off, bit yucky in the morning .

I'm wondering if I had a cholesterol test when I had my well woman check up at the GPs. I don't remember them saying but they did say my results were good, they did things like going through what you eat, drink, if you smoke, then checked height, weight, did a heart check (ECG?) blood pressure and then a blood test. I do remember that when they checked they said my heart age was about 5 years younger than my actual age. I think I am due for another one, must check next time I'm getting my prescription done.

I wonder why they don't do more bone density tests? Broken hips cost them a fortune. Maybe it isn't something that responds well to treatment so they don't think it is worth it. I must have a look at that.

I do keep up with dentist, I have a horror of wearing dentures so want to avoid that at all costs. I still have all my teeth and want that to continue.

    Good morning lovely ladies......

Well I have definitely decided to go for that screening, I will ring them on Monday. The question is do I get it done in February knowing full well that the results will be bad and scare myself silly or do I do it March when I've had time to try and lick myself into slightly better shape. :rotfl:

I think probably the latter, because I'm such a coward. :D.

Moll. You are not the only one in bad shape, I know I need to act now before it's too late. However, I am resolved that this year I will definitely get my act together. By the end of this year I want to lighter, fitter, healthier and stronger. It's time to turn back that aging clock. Moll be my fitness buddy and shame me into action!!!!

One thing I will say and I know this sounds a bit new age hippy dippy but as I have made such good progress on the decluttering front I am starting to feel so much "lighter" - more energetic, more upbeat and positive.

I know it all sounds a bit airy fairy but I really do think that ditching all that furniture and opening up the rooms has done something. I feel that somehow the rooms can "breathe". Yeah I know I sound bonkers. But there's definitely something to be said for living with less.

Even just on a practical level it makes the room easier to live in, I was forever bashing myself on the coffee table for a start. I will have to replace that with a couple of fold up tables for when I have visitors so they have somewhere to put their cup or wine glass but when it's just me I have a side lamp table where I can put my coffee. I have my vase of tulips on there and they look so pretty.

In Feng Shuey they call it "chi" - energy or life force, same as in acupuncture.

    Releasing the chakras innit.:rotfl::rotfl:

Are you all rolling your eyes in disbelief and sceptism.

Whatever.......this minimalism milarky is already working for me.....I just feel different.

I am also fasting today, so won't have brunch till around 12 and then try and keep my food intake into an 8 hour window. Not so much for weight loss but it will help my digestive system to recover.

Today I shall hang those paintings and Kondo my bedroom. Then give myself a facial and a manicure at some point.

Hope you all have a great weekend. Keeeeep fabbing.
