Well done on your 'finds' LL!
I picked up a designer shoulder bag from the charity shop for £3.50. Well pleased!(AKA HRH_MUngo)

SDW. Thanks for the link to Bluecrest screening. It's definitely something I want to do. The Nuffield do it here but I think it costs more and it doesn't seem quite so comprehensive. Bluecrest does seem to be very good value for money.
I know some GPS will do some of the tests for free but it's a bit of a postcode lottery and they are cutting back all the time.
There have been some very interesting diet and health programmes on the tv this last week or so. Lots of new science and new knowledge about exercise and nutrition. Maman Michael Moseley did a programme about exercise, the conclusion was that dancing is one of the best forms of exercise. :j.
You are right SDW. It's the visceral fat that's dangerous.
I actually weighed myself this morning and the bad news is that I've put a few pounds back on. I have been a bit lax since my holiday, and then the nausea was so bad I did nothing but eat to try and combat it, so I knew I had gained. Never mind my tummy seems to settling again and I'm back on the probiotics and healthy eating.
The good news is that the small bedroom is almost clear. I should be able to get it finished this weekend and then I can set up some of my exercise equipmemt. I'll set up a spare tv and DVD player in there so I will be able to get my exercise DVDs out as well.
I'll have no excuse then......:rotfl:
RL. Sounds like you are having lots of fun trying out new ways to wear your existing clothes. Shopping from your wardrobe. :T:T0 -

Glad to be of assistance.
Many GPs won't do the tests unless you have symptoms. This health check is a preventative screening, rather than just treating the symptoms.
It is cheaper than BUPA because they don't do it in a hospital. Mine was done in a local hotel. The results then go to medical professionals who prepare your report and it comes through the post.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

I know the NHS won't do a lot of things, sometimes even when you are symptomatic.
I asked my doctor for a H. Pylori test because I suspected I had picked up a parasite in the Caribbean. She refused point blank and insisted I had bowel cancer. :rotfl:
Of course the cancer tests came back negative......she was completely barking up the wrong tree, wasting time and money, but she wouldn't listen to me. Obviously I am only an ignorant patient and she is the Oracle. She never did agree to a test.
You gotta laugh. So even though I think I got rid of the parasite in the end H.pylori can cause long term problems if untreated .....and I do think it's been a contributory factor to my stomach problems.
Needless to say I now see a different GP.......luckily I am pretty robust so dont have to go very often.

I'm annoyed that being ill is not allowing me to exercise as that was something I wanted to start this year and it's the 11th already. The weight loss has stalled as I have only lost 1 more pound this year.
At least I haven't gained any weight back.:p
I'm getting my hair cut in a minute, it really needs a good trim.savingfortomorrow wrote: »wednesday - cough can linger for upto two weeks despite the finishing of antibiotics. Lots of warm drinks, boiled sweets and a little honey to soothe the throat.
I've had a cough for about 10 weeks now!:mad::rotfl: I should have gone on antibiotics sooner.0 -
Hello Ladies, and yes any lurking Gents (you deserve to be fabulous too), I'm sure I joined this some years ago then life got in the way. I always dressed well but let all that go in a slow burn sort of way, ready once again to have a go. I have put on weight to my tummy mostly which looks worse because I have really slim legs. I have dyed my own hair in an adventurous colour and will have to have that sorted as its drained the colour from my face (might go to the college to get this fixed, much cheaper and carefully watched by tutors). I wear glasses and dont mind this but I buy coloured contact every year, monthly throw aways, but rarely wear them !!!. I buy toothwhitening gel from the dentist every year and give it to my daughters !!! I have a private health insurance you see and can claim them oney back for these. I can also claim for massages but never get them. What is going on with me ? This has to stop, and so if I embarress myself by posting here I hope to become the fabulous creature I'm sure I was meant to be.:T:jDabbler in all things moneysaving.Master of none:o
Well except mastered my mortgage 5 yrs early :T:j

I had a letter from Bluecrest but when I did a search I found alot of negative stuff, including this thread on MSE https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5396127/bluecrest-health-screening so decided not to do it. There was also an article by a GP who did it and wrote about the problems with it, I can't remember what they were but he was a bit scathing. Hard to know what to think, I must ask DIL who is a doctor, she can probably advise me. I am planning on having a bone density scan as I have some concerns about that, early menopause and a fracture from a twisted ankle which seemed unexpected. SDW did the tests include bone density? I don't think you mentioned it but I'm not sure.
I do have my mammogram every 3 years and do the bowel cancer test, I'm not sure if that is every 3 years and I do have annual blood tests because of a medical condition.
I've never had a cholesterol test so that might be useful, I know my weight is fine and my blood pressure is a bit low but that is normal for me. I did have a lung test when black mold at work caused me some problems but at least I found out my lung function was normal.
I might look into it again, my son has a BUPA test every year, it is free through his work and he says it is very thorough but they have referred him twice for things that turned out to be nothing so not sure if the worry was worth it.
LL don't blame you for changing GP, insisting you had bowel cancer! That is outrageous without tests, my sister had it, it was picked up in the NHS test you get sent (the poo test as we call it) even after they found "Something" during an endoscopy they wouldn't confirm it was cancer until it had been tested in the lab. She could have worried you to death if you had been the anxious type. Did you have to have an endoscopy? Not a small thing to go through.
Maman I have a new Lidl opening soon, just a short walk away so I am looking forward to trying their creams, as you say it is cheap enough not to worry about. You must be getting excited about the holiday. DDs advice is be careful on public transport as it is crowded and she got groped a few times. She absolutely loved India and the people (except the gropers) and had so many funny tales to tell us.0 -

Please see my comments in blue.
I had already seen the reviews and also the thread you mentioned. I just don't agree with them. In my experience Drs won't send you for tests if you have no symptoms. Why would my GP refer me for a bone density test if there is no apparent need to? How would I know about my internal fat if I have not been tested for it?
It's like taking your car for a service, some things are OK, others need looking at and some may need fixing otherwise it will fail the MOT. You might not know your oil filter needs changing, or your brakes aligned unless you are specifically looking for it.
