Hi. Lemonade Money. Welcome to our merry gang.
Sorry to hear that you are miserable and lonely but please don't think you are alone. We can be your virtual friends until you feel ready to get out and about again and make some RL friends.
I promise you that As you progress along your fabbing journey you will start to feel happier, more confident, stronger and more outgoing.
Start with grooming, better self care, healthy eating, maybe a bit of gentle exercise, even just a short daily walk.
How much free time do you get for yourself.
Think about things you like doing, things you enjoy or might like to try and the fab ladies on here will come up with all sorts of ideas and suggestions and help you find a way of moving forward.
Fabbing isnt just about hair styles, clothes and lippy. Its also about being happy, healthy and engaged with life.
Anyway, well done on coming out of lurkdom......it's onwards and Uowards from now on.
One last final antibiotic and a cuppa and then I'm off to bed.....
I have had to have lots of snacks and have been almost constantly grazing in order to stave off the nausea. It's been worse than being pregnant. :rotfl: today has been quite bad. I've tried to eat healthy snacks rather than stoking up on carbs but even so I have been eating too much. Hopefully I can now start to go back to proper meals and no snacking.0 -

Anyone else have a favourite style icon?
Oh yes I do, really admire Rachel Bilson who has really nailed smart casual too. As she’s my height (5ft 1) I am keen to emulate her style. Figured it was time for me to stop lurking and say hello
I’m 37, look younger though. While I’m generally quite slim my hips and thighs are chunky. And I want to wear skinny jeans :rotfl:
Anyway I’m increasing my exercise levels, especially my steps. Walking is good to slim legs.
In terms of fabbing I do wear perfume daily and invested in good skincare at Christmas. I could do with learning how to apply makeup. I just apply some Bare Minerals, eyeliner, eyeshadow and lipgloss. I don’t even own a lipstick!
When I was younger I was the queen of Lush and various pampering routines. I’m going to join you in being more fab!Mortgage so far: £31,630.01Aiming to be mortgage free by 20240 -
Hi! I'm worried about my weight loss. I eat 1500-1600Kcal per day and run three time per week about half an hour. I thought is enough to lose weight, but some calculators show it's too little , I should eat less. What you think?0

I'm on my last day as well, luckily! My cough still hasn't gone yet, though.:mad:0 -
Good morning lovely ladies.....
Sorry Amara I can't really advise about weight loss, I'm struggling to lose weight myself. I'm sure the other ladies will have some tips.
Wednesday.....hope the cough clears soon, they can take a while. At least you will soon be off the wretched antibiotics.
Sitting in bed with my morning coffee, nice and cosy. It's grey and murky outside and not feeling exactly tropical.
Electrician coming today so an at home day. Going to tackle the kitchen today. Blitz the cupboards and see what I can get rid off, wash the floor and then put down a nice black and white rug I picked up in a sale for Christmas.
Will load up the car ready for a charity shop and tip run tomorrow. When I'm done I will have a mini spa session and get down to some serious pampering......
Have a great day y'all.0 -
Style Icons......ooh I'm very promiscuous - I don't have any real favourites.
I tend to take inspiration from people in the public eye or sometimes just ordinary ladies in the street if I think they look especially good. I agree Sandra Howard always looks good.
If I need to really dress up for a formal occasion or a special night out then I like to really push the boat out. So I go for full on Hollywood red carpet glamour, with a knock em dead dress. Nice jewellery, a spattering of sequins or lace, pretty pashminas, fake furs, the lot. (although not all at once). :rotfl: I have been told I scrub up well.
My colouring is the same as Helen Mirren. I have the same baby fine whispy hair too, similar body shape and the same generous bosom - better legs though, hers are a bit chunky and she has cankles, bless her. Which is probably why she rarely shows her legs and instead shows her great cleavage in well fitting long gowns.
I think that's the trick, divert attention from your flaws and flaunt your assets. :rotfl: although I still have good legs I always make sure I follow the cardinal rule. Legs or cleavage, never both. Keeping it classy!!!
My day time or smart casual look is fairly simple, jeans/trousers, jacket and/or good top coat or trench mac, nice knitwear, boots or loafers.
I tend to favour well fitted or tailored clothes over baggy. Loose clothes can make me look "chunky". Absolutely no frills, flounces, gathers, pleats or patterns, no horizontal stripes. Minimal jewellery. Written down it sounds very spartan and rather boring but it's a pared down look which works for me.
One of my favourite films for clothing inspiration is the remake of the Thomas Crown Affair with Renee Rousso. For me the costume designer nailed dressing for grown up glamour and sophistication. Another favourite was the American TV series "The Good Wife" and the follow up,"The Good Fight". Set in an American law firm. Again the costume designers really pushed the boat out, the clothes were amazing.
Right time to get cracking.0 -
Good morning everyone - a bit dreary here in the North West. I am in bed with my juice and catching up with some diaries (the joy of being retired).
Lemonade Money - sorry to hear that you’re feeling a bit down, but excellent advice from LL - as she wisely says, it’s not all just about hair/make up/weight loss, but being happy and finding a purpose in life and being the best you can. And starting with grooming/personal care is a good start. Baby steps.
Maman - sorry never answered you question about the nail polish - yes, it IS the pinky gel I use, not the whole French Manicure. I don’t think I could give myself one, even if I tried! Like you, I’m trying to drink more water and have got back into the habit of drinking nearly a litre when I first get up in the morning to kick start the day. I fell by the wayside before Christmas, but want to get back into the habit of drinking more water. Just need to remember to drink more during the day!
I mentioned that one of my goals for January is to lose the half stone I have put on. Well, hopped on the scales yesterday and it’s more like 3/4 of a stone! I wondered why my black trousers that I tried on yesterday were a bit tight! I know this may not seem as much as some ladies on here would like to lose, but it’s important to me and I will feel so much better when it’s gone.
I too like to “people watch” and sometimes think, “Oh, she looks nice” when I see another woman in the supermarket etc. and also the opposite. I was in the Post Office earlier this week and a young woman was leaning on the counter in front of me sending some packages. She was very overweight, was wearing jogging pants, and you could see the crack of her bottom as she was leaning over. Her hair was lanky and she was wearing slippers. I didn’t really feel I should be judging her, but couldn’t help it. She looked as if she had just got out of bed - probably had. I really don’t think there is any excuse for slovenliness.
Anyhoo - today I am going to get down to some serious house cleaning. I’ve been a little under the weather lately with a constant cough, which is getting a bit better, so I am going to blitz the kitchen and catch up with the ironing. I know how to live:rotfl:0 -
Hi Lemonade
hope you stick with the thread I am sure it will help, it is helping me and honestly I thought I was a lost cause.
I got the job I went after, its only 12 hours a week - 2 6 hour shifts but that will do for now, starting 1st Feb.
Walked 13 miles last week and already done 9 for this week. It has to help and its free.
I have so much skincare stuff and perfume so plan to use some everyday this year, like everyone says its about feeling looked after.
I have only one or two things in my wardrobe that aren`t black, navy or grey. That needs to change I will start with just the odd pastel colour t.shirt as money is tight.
Thank you everyone for the good wishes.Save more - Travel more

Completely agree. Get used to a it a little bit shorter Katie then have some more off next time. And make sure there is a next time, soon!:)
Not sure how plentiful money is at this time lemonade-money but I'd really recommend having your hair done professionally if you can. Groupon often has deals. I'm an avid people watcher too and some home hair dyes are very obviously that.:( Well done for wearing your new tops. Too many of us keep things 'for best' and don't get enough wear or pleasure from things. I agree with LL about the healthy eating. To be mse you'll need to eat up what you have in but make it into as healthy meals as possible by adding fresh ingredients. You can't go far wrong with meat, potatoes and 2 veg cooked plainly. Well actually far more than 2 veg, have as many as you can! Doing a meal plan with minimal waste is a challenge in itself.:)
Not sure what you're using to measure your calories/exercise amara. I don't use it myself but people tell me that My Fitness Pal is very good. Also you could try out 5:2 where you have 2 very low calorie days and 5 'normal' ones.
I'd suggest going to the make up counters in department stores at quiet times frugal lass. They generally ask if they can help and if you start with, say, Bare Minerals and explain what you need to learn they'll usually show you. You really don't have to buy a product although if I go out to buy a product specifically I always make sure I have a demonstration of something.
I really can't agree with your age appropriate dressing retired lady!:D I love my skinny jeans. I had a day out just before Christmas with my DD and DGD and all three of us could have swapped our clothes for each others. We all had our skinny jeans, jumper, scarf, boots and quilted coat 'uniform' on.:) To be honest there are some things I wouldn't wear. I'd only wear a very short skirt on holiday with brown legs or at home with tights and leggings for example. Generally though most clothing can be adapted for most people. It's often not just about age either but height, weight etc.
I'm drinking more squash than water at the moment. It seems more palatable in cold weather. Hot Ribena is particularly good.:)
I finished my first book yesterday. I got so into it that I turned the TV off in the evening as I just had to finish the last few pages. Next one is ready to start.:)
It's cold here but the sun has peeped out a few times. Had a good, brisk hour's walk this morning. It's easy when I've arranged to meet a group of friends but so hard to make myself go on my own on other days. Not seem money or lantanna for a few days but I'm keeping going with small steps.:)
ETA: Meant to say that we go to India on February 6th. We don't need jabs but just to follow the advice and take care (like keeping away from stray dogs etc). I think it depends where you go in the country and where you've come from.0
