I think fabbing isn't just the clothes, make up and hair etc it's the health side too & that makes us stronger and more resilient which benefits everyone.
Right - I'll get off me soapbox now and wish you all a fabulous year!

I read it as useful advice silva not soapboxy at all.:) I'd add mental stimulation of some sort to that list which is why I'm determined to get back into reading and then there's plays, films etc.:)
I actually feel a bit better for going out, couldn't do much but managed to post a parcel and and get the bromelain so it was worth it.

That's really good to hear. Hopefully the cold sore will clear up very soon.

Good luck with the job search LGP. I agree it's easy to wallow which is why I think setting ourselves targets (however baby steps they are) is a good idea.

I did a bit of wallowing yesterday.:o For some reason my back started aching. This last happened on Christmas Day:( but before that almost a year ago. I don't really know what triggers it but I have medication to take when needed. The trouble is that it knocks me out. I went to lie down with my book and fell asleep for most of the afternoon. DH was telling some friends about it last night and they recommended a TENS machine as an alternative to medication. I might give that a try.

Feeling much better today if a bit sore. I'm determined to go dancing tonight as I need to get back to exercise post Christmas holidays. I plan to wear a long skirt but with thick tights/leggings underneath. Like chanie said we can layer clothes for the seasons. This particular skirt is black cotton.

I've done all my usual routines today and used the Sally Hansen nail treatment again.:) Next on the list is to read a bit more and not fall asleep.;)
  • Tidying up with Marie Kondo is available on Netflix. A series of 30 min progs where she visits families in USA and helps them declutter. Starts with their clothes...

They used to do it twice a year but the last couple of years they just did it for a week, it was either late November or early December. There are rules about which depts you can use them in but it can be useful, I doubled up points to buy little GDs and one GS some clothes as part of Christmas present, also bought some pyjamas for DD and some t shirts for son. I also bought some wine. I can't remember exactly but I think I spent about £70 worth of points to get £140 worth of goods so useful for Christmas.

Jumping in a bit late . but im here. I used to be in this group ages ago , and my old computer died a death . and i lost all my contacts and groups , So glad ive found this one again , and nice to see a lot of names i still recognise here too .
I love this group . its always so postitive , Thats what we need. no negative , Onwards and upwards , Im still playing catch up and only up to page 6 , but my thoughts are like many others , I need to lose weight , for health reasons , The blob is slowing up ...........so my aims are to walk more ( I can walk but ive got lazy , need to give myself a kick up the bum before the cold winter comes }and sort my food out better . Ive got into VERY bad eating habits , chocolate every day etc ,,,,,, so it has to stop , I dont even look like me anymore , let alone feel like me ,
I use face cream every morning that definitley suits my skin , and its only cheapy stuff from Aldi , Ive tried all kinds and this is by far the best for me , Ive GOT to do my hair more often , My daughter is a hairdresser and she always cuts and colours my hair , but its WHEN and IF she feels like doing it ,,,,,,,,,,,,, the grey doesnt wait forever , so i need to find a good hairdresser and have it done more often , I always feel great when my hair is coloured , Dont laugh but grey hair on me actually makes me feel yucky. so thats another to do ,,,, ooh arnt i going to look fab ,
Another is to have more water ( I follow the SW healthy eating too ) and more sleep , I stay up too late .
My hands is another area i plan to do more with , My hands are looking old , so ive got hand cream all over the place , near the computer, kitchen sink , bathroom , bedroom , so any time i remember i slap some on , hopefully they will look better , and last but by no means least , i want to whiten my teeth, Ive been to the dentist , although only twice a year to have them cleaned and polished , Ive been really lucky and not needed anything doing till i had a filling this year ( Seriously first thing ive needed for about 40 years ) so i cant complain but i want to see if theres anything i can do to whiten my teeth a bit , Think ive been watching too many film stars on TV lol
so a big list , but all dooable , Im getting over the lurgy flu and cough thats going around , but now im coming alive i intend to plod on with my goals , and look forward to reading how everyone else is getting on xxx a bit late , but happy New Year everyone x

Hello Moll, good to see you back. Sounds like you've got a good handle on what needs to be done. Just focus on the good stuff and you'll get there.

Good morning lovely ladies. I'm wide awake. Last day of the antibiotics today thank goodness. Hopefully my tummy can then settle again. It keeps waking me up at ridiculously godforsaken hours and I'm getting very tired.

Anyhoo......the excess furniture is leaving the house today:j:j So I can then roll up my sleeves and get stuck in. Let the big declutter begin. I can't wait. :D

I went into the loft bedroom the other day and it's overwhelming, although I probably won't really get up there for a couple of weeks yet.

Getting all philosophical for a moment I think I have been hanging on to "stuff" as if it were a life raft. Also buying more "stuff" to fill the void my husband left. Crazy, because no amount of stuff can ever replace a person.......

However, I can see how and why some people become hoarders after bereavement or a traumatic life event. Luckily I think I have woken up to the fact that I need to let it all go. It really is serving no purpose. Looking at the state of that upstairs room it would be so easy to say "I can't face it, its overwhelming" and then just let it pile up even more.

I am actually quite excited now at the thought of clearing it all. Buying this house was the first step into my new life as a singleton, a step towards leaving widowhood behind, now it's time to up my game and just get rid and move forwards.

Maman.....not long now till your trip to India. Hope your back gets better in plenty of time. I find a tens machine helpful. I bet your husband is getting excited, fulfilling his ambition. My husband was the same when we went to China. It had long been an ambition of his. A vague "one day when I'm retired".......

I actually booked it as a surprise for him, his face was a picture when I told him. I don't know to this day what made me do it. A Premonition maybe, but I just felt a sense of urgency. Good job really. A couple of years later he got sick.........

I am a great believer in intuition and listening to our inner voices.

Anyhoo.....I'm not going to get any more sleep so I'll get cracking. I'll be half dead later this afternoon. :rotfl:

    Have a great day.

LL you sound so much more positive now , What did you finally decide to call the house "Rainbows End "? All your future projects are going to be amazing , and i wish you well .
Im sort of in the same boat with a spare bedroom , I inherited a whole house when my uncle died , and its all in that bedroom !!! Just a walk way through , Its rediculous as i just didnt want to part with his stuff, but as you say it doesnt replace the person , its just stuff , and i need to pass it all on to someone who can use it , ( Unfortunatly no family of his left to give it too , thats the problem ) so i felt i should keep it for him ??????????? Think ive been Marie Kondoed , need to clear that room , and get it usable again ,

Brrrrr it's chilly here today. My car is totally frosted over .Have to take Bonnie for her booster today, n am hoping she behaves at the vets. She usually goes in and shouts her head off, so will wait in the car if it's busy .She's a staffy so people think she's going to eat them when she barks, but She's just a gobby mare :rotfl:
'LL I'm so glad you had the trip to China with your late Hubby :D You're so right about intuition too .We have gut feelings for a reason :D

I think it will be Rainbows End. I'll get a nice metal sign made.

Anyway.....two sideboards, a Welsh dresser, a coffee table, one of those wooden Ikea storage cubes and a box of books all gone. They even very kindly turned one the sofas round for me - they weigh a ton. They're on the hit list too, later this year.

Managed to put the Turkish rug in the dining room. It looks lovely there, you can really appreciate the colours. The grey table and six chairs really sit nicely on top of it. I know I only paid £15 for it from a chazzer but it's a beauty so I didn't really want to have to get rid.
Just got to try and drag the grey one down from the attic bedroom in a minute. Need a little rest first though.

I also moved one of those Ikea Poang chairs so beloved of students into the sunny corner of the dining room. A perfect little reading nook. I bought that chair for my husband's room in the nursing home so it is actually quite sentimental in a macabre sort of way. :rotfl:

You're right Moll, It is so hard parting with a loved ones possessions. I think it's more difficult that parting with your own. You do feel a sense of guilt. But, as any antiques dealer will admit, eventually only a few items are kept long term, the rest goes to landfill. Within 2 generations it's usually all gone. Realistically modern homes are just too small, either that or we all just have too many possessions.

I guess you just have to do it when the time feels right. It's taken me 4.5 years to get started.

I tend to donate all my unwanted furniture and household goods to the YMCA. They have what they call a "Happy Homes" prohect. They either sell on like a normal chazzer or they will furnish a home for someone who was formerly homeless. I feel it's a very worthwhile thing they do so I don't feel so bad at getting rid of stuff.

I think the Lighthouse, Mind, and the British Heart Foundation all run similar schemes. They usually pick up larger items for free too.

All this house fabbing means I look a bit worse for wear. I need a spa day.....:rotfl: I'll give myself some treatments tomorrow.
  • Hi Ladies

I would like to join as well. I’m 63 and have been retired just over a year. I’m still trying to find my retirement style - think jeans/gilet/boots - that sort of thing, teamed with nice jewellery or a scarf. I am on a mission not to buy any clothes this year as I have way too many already. I previously had to dress smartly for work - suits/dresses with jacket etc. but now retired, still want to dress smartly, but a different kind of smart IYSWIM.

I used to have shellac nails when I was working but stopped a year ago and my nails are only just beginning to start to look reasonable again. I now use Rimmel gel polish (French Manicure colour) and a couple of coats and then a top clear coat gives nearly the same result as shellac. My nails have never looked so good. Obviously not as long lasting as shellac, but far kinder to the nails. One of my goals this year is to keep this up, together with regular use of hand cream.

My hair turned white in my 30s so I started having brown/caramel lowlights. Just the same as I used to have in my 20s, but rather than putting peroxide on my mousy hair, I put the dye on my silver hair. Well, my hairdresser does! She recommended it and it blends in - just looks like highlights. Does the trick, as I look a bit wishy washy without the highlights. I also had my eyebrows tattooed last year and the brown matches my lowlights. My aim is to keep this up now that I’m retired and not let things slide.

    So goals:

Weekly manicure and apply gel polish/regular use of hand cream
Simplify my daily wardrobe and work out my retirement style
Hair - cut and lowlights every 6 to 8 weeks
Lose the half stone that I’ve put on since I retired
Get more exercise - had a bad fall a few months ago and I stopped
Put money aside for beauty pampering - maintain eyebrows/save up for more Prophilo - as I could see a massive difference in my face
Live a more mindful and joyful life
    Be happy!

Love this thread - it’s great to be amongst so many like minded fabbers.:rotfl:
