It happens most years around this time. They always blame it on a computer glitch.
I must admit, i've been claiming ESA for almost 7 years and PIP for 5 years and never had any problems with any payments during Christmas time.

Happened to my partner twice a few years ago and happened to my son last year. Not sure why it happens to some people and not others.

They did say one year aswell that it's so nobody is short of money if they had their previous payment a couple of days early.

I've worked in DWP for 28 years and I've never heard of it!

  • Hello Lufcmaz. I can confirm I've had the same as you.

My normal payment day would have been 8th January 2019 and my payment before that was early as otherwise it would have fallen on Christmas Day. I've just recently received a half payment too (I usually get paid every 2 weeks, this was half of the normal amount). So like Liz said above, it's hopefully to make sure we have some amount of money over this period.

Happy New Year to you all!
  • I got 1 week payment of esa today (Monday) and not due til 9th.im worried sick. I have seen a few posts from quite a few, saying the same has happened to them. Hoping it's a glitch and I'm not being taken off it.
  • I've had the same thing today (Monday) - exactly half of my normal payment, which isn't due until next Tuesday (8th) I'm planning to call the DWP when they open (I'm assuming they're open today but who knows lol) but has anyone been given an explanation from them already as to what's happening? With several people having the same thing happen I'm slightly reassured that it's not a problem with my claim in particular, but it's still really stressful, especially as it's very similar to what happened last time I was reassessed and my claim had been stopped 😖
  • Got paid on the 21st when ment to be paid on 25th and got an random payment of what appears to be half of my usual Payment early hours of this morning on the 31st when im ment to be paid on the 8th.

They don't just stop your money for ESA unless you've been found fit for work, or you've recently received another ESA50 form and you haven't returned it by the date stated in the letter. Seems like it's affected those that receive their payment around the 8th Jan.

I received my PIP today and it's not due until 2nd, same day as my ESA but i haven't received that.
  • I had the half payment today (the 31st). It's never happened in previous years but doesn't seem like anything to worry about.

I'm not going to bother ringing this week. I'll see if I get another half payment next week when my normal 2-week payment would be due.
