    I just rang up and all was ok!!! They are emailing me this afternoon!!! Great offer!!!
  • Mine jammed up twice this week and the only way to deal with it was to unplug and of course that loses all the data, so I rang them and they are sending me another one and I have to send this one back. She was very nice about it so don't worry if it happens to you, just ring the number at the start of this thread and they send you a postage paid envelope to send it back in.

    Electronics are obsolete almost as soon as you purchase them these days. It's not entirely true that "digital is digital" either;

    1) Recent changes to the Freeview signal have rendered thousands of users boxes obsolete (namely Daewoo Setpal boxes). This is due to the part of the signal that identifies what channels are available and their names being extended beyond the original specification.

    2) We do not know how long MPEG2 will be used - it is a very inefficient medium for broadcast video when MPEG4 is widely available (and being trialled with the BBC HD broadcasts).

    3) How long do you think these boxes will have software developed for them? Manufacturers tend to do 1-2 code drops for these boxes then abandon them in favor of newer technology. Seen this so many times with "budget" electronics it's untrue.

    The teletext support is completely different to the box's underlying firmware - teletext are building applications on top of the base firmware which if not developed, will remain with the same bugs it has now (slow/naff looking menu's, slow/sporadic channel changing, crashing/hanging).

    The software used on the Alba as supplied by Inview is used by a multitude of budget freeview boxes including ones from Tesco, Asda, Dixons and many more. They are all the same hardware in different style/colour cases.

    Hope this goes some way to explain :cool:

    Actually the boxes never conformed to the original Freeview specs, THATS why they don't work. The boxes will still work (in a fashion) anyway, just DON'T do a channel update!!!

    Here is the list of the 6 affected boxes - around 1% or less of total sold boxes...

    2.I can't imagine all those Freeview boxes being made useless, look at DAB, more efficient standards exist by FAR. Who knows.

    3. Even if software is not developed anymore, the boxes will still work. Many people still use the ONdigital/ITV digital boxes, last update was in 2004 and that only really fixed TopupTV issues.

    Don't be so pessimistic :D:D:D

    As others have stated you have to agree to use the box on the main television in the house. As also has been said there is no way they can know whether you keep to that or not.However I'm not sure that they would accept you agreeing to that for 2 boxes in the same house.
