MadamMim I just wanted to say make sure you take time out for yourself. I've never had the best relationship with my mum, my brother is the favourite and she was quite cold when I was growing up. She would never address her issues and can lie through her teeth for the world. Now she is older she expects you to wait on her hand and foot and is very babyish when the carers come in even though she can do things but wont. It was our GP that stepped in for me and sorted out carers and other support.......his words were literally look after urself and ur DD and we will look after ur DM, bec she will destroy ur lives if not careful and he was right. Sometimes u need to step back and take a breather.....if u dont it will become destructive :(

Thank you for this, a relief to know I am not so alone in my situation and that I can cease to feel guilty for my conflicting feelings at the moment! :)
I am working today so a break of sorts (I’m a HCA so caring is never fully escapable:o)
My DS1 will make sure a nice bath awaits me when I get in this evening :D Bless him, I always make sure both my boys know how grateful I am for their support and assistance with their nan & for their thoughtfulness towards me..

    Morning all declutterers
A few more toys have been put in the cs bag, including a roman sword, a bow and arrow and a large pot of marbles.... ( I wondered where mine went :D ). A one legged robot has been binned. Today I shall declutter the ironing basket :rotfl:.

    A quick question......
Does anyone know if there is a minimum amount of cs bags that would be collected ? I already have 3 filled ( 2 heavy ones with bric a brac/books, and 1 with clothes ) and none of our cs shops have nearby parking.

MrsSD my lips are sealed :silenced:

    Happy decluttering :T.

The shops near me tend to suggest you phone them as it depends on what you have as well as the quantity. I don't have a car so I have to take a tiny bag each time I go into town. It's very annoying.

Hi everyone, I've been following this thread and it's very motivating!

This weekend I spent 3 hours (!) sorting out shoes; 1 bag to charity shop, 10 items listed on Facebook (3 already sold) and the rest all tidied away / stored for when littlest DD grows up.

Felt very productive, now just the rest of the house :D

Now, where was I? Minus computer that went off for repair and returned in working order! Things are still heading out even if it's only virtual stuff: plenty of files got deleted or or moved to the external hard drive which still counts... Now it's back, I need to get on with job applications and selling stuff that isn't low hanging fruit!

Physical things: 13 magazines and 1 DVD gone today. 7 items for the next We Buy B00ks parcel, 22 items for the local record store and 7 books and DVD's for a charity shop.

There's also a pile of paper that is tax related that needs shredding or burning

  • Well I know I haven't been on for a while but I have been busy, honestly!!!
I have staggered to the charity shop where I work with a large carrier bag of stuff, biscuit tins, a couple of dresses, a tall vase, butter dish and 14 teaspoons. I have no idea why I had so many considering there is just me and my son.
Have ebayed 4 items which have sold so that is decluttering spare room along with the boxes that they were packed in.
A vintage radio is currently on gumtree which was found in the loft so hopefully that will be another item out.
Also got rid of a bag of 4ply wool. As much as I love knitting 4 ply feels like such hard work as takes so long. Does knitting another baby blanket count towards decluttering my enormous wool stash?
I am working on the theory slowly but surely I will get there.
Oh well time to put the next bag for the charity shop by the front door so it reminds me every day to put something in it till full.

Not got time for a proper catch up but wanted to pop by :)

Perhaps unsurprisingly we've found more things to declutter as we've been packing. I have gone from 6 hairbrushes down to 3, for example. I used to keep 2 in my gym bag before I changed routine. I also got rid of some toiletries that were never going to get used up (but unfortunately weren't fit for donation).

I also went through our first aid supplies and threw out anything which was out of date. It's all good and well having a decent stock of painkillers/creams etc, but if you need something and it's expired then you can be a bit stuck. I don't think we'll have such easy access to a late night pharmacy when we move either so I need to do this on a more regular basis, and I really need to go through the bag in the car too!

Does anybody know whether it's reasonable to donate partially used perfumes? I know empty bottles can sell, but I'm not sure whether they're worth donating if they are half-3/4 full.

Tonight I tackled the cupboard in the kitchen with all the condiments and herbs and spices in it. 50% was out of date :embarasse
So, mass cull and lots of jars to recycle and the cupboard is now all neat thanks to a new spice jar organiser :A

Next job is to do another cupboard switch and have one small cupboard dedicated to baking stuff. I'm finding it easier to do in small chunks whilst I'm in the kitchen cooking and I'm determined to surprise my exceedingly tidy mum when she visits in March!

I don't know about donating but I have seen perfume on ebay that's been partly used. 'Only one spray used' etc. May be worth a try.

I was struggling with dithering indecision today. I was trying to sort out the 6 year old's board and picture books but I have so many happy memories of how much he used to love me reading them over and over to him when he was a tiny that I ended up keeping most of them. I did manage to take a bag of baby clothes to the CS though so I still got something accomplished. I'll just need to have another go at the books when I'm in a more ruthless mood!

Well done Ginmonster. I struggle so much getting rid of DS's stuff so I admire you. It's too easy to sit and reminise while decluttering.

I've sorted a huge bag of recycling this morning. Where on earth does it come from? Apart from that nothing else as I was too busy trying to sort out finances for when my SSP stops in a few weeks. Apparently I'm not entitled to any help even though I've worked since I was 14 and am now 48. Anyone know how to live off fresh air as cancer doesn't seem to be a bad enough illness. Sorry rant over. I'm just p1ssed off today.

There you go. I decluttered my good attitude.

Hi- just seen your post- it may be worth contacting some of the local cancer charities to find out what support they give. I do hope they can help you.
