Working_Mum wrote: »Hey White_musk - reading your post makes me think "is there another way??" - have you got space to use these in your garden?? I had an old glass topped table and conservatory sofa I protected with yacht varnish and an exterior sealer and used them outside for about 12 years - I literally got rid of them last year because the sofa was unsafe to sit on!! I cut it up and burned the pieces on the fire pit.
I continue my de-cluttering drive this year and reading this thread is great for inspiration. THANK YOU all ((hugs))
Part of the recent building work I've had was building a sun room. At the moment it's pretty much a dumping space as I'm getting things put back to rights. I like your suggestion and will look to see what I can do once I have the room emptied. Thank you.

Hi all, I have thrown away an old blusher and given away a book - I intended to only lend it but my friend asked if she could pass it on or did I want it back so I said she could pass it on so hopefully someone else will enjoy it after her rather than gathering dust on my shelf
Keep warm everyone! Deni x

I've sold 2 items on Facebook and made £25!!
i know it won't always be that easy but hey ho. Keep on keeping on!!0 -
A book and 3 other bits dropped off to the chazzer today. A few pieces of paperwork shredded. A bit more progress!
To those with things you are struggling over I think it’s better to keep them now and revisit in future if you aren’t sure. You can always declutter more in future but can’t get a sentimental piece back. I tried to just move on to something else. Not that I’m ‘finished’ anyway. I think books, recipes, papers and photos are going to take a while yet!0 -
I am feeling traumatised at these mentions of throwing out recipes! :rotfl:
I decided to work on the dining room today: some deep cleaning and removing clutter means part of it looks a lot better. 7 items gone and others relocated (it won't look so good once I open the curtains!) but it's encouraging.
I think I've finally finished the knitting project that I thought I'd complete a week ago. It turned out I'd gone wrong but that's corrected now... will look at it more closely in the cold light of day to be sure there's nothing left to fix.
Mrs SD, you are doing a sterling job and I love reading your posts. I was really alarmed when you told us about getting hypothermia, as my son had it just before Christmas. He realised something was wrong and got back to his car when he couldn't get help by phone, but he'd got to the second stage. Just want to say to everyone reading - it's easier to get into danger from the cold than you would think. Stay warm if you possibly can in this freezing weather!I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)
The sun's been out and I think I’m solar powered (Onebrokelady)

Tuesday has been a damp miserable day BUT less cold than it has been :T I concocted my soup, it has been zizzed & taste tested - very niceso lunch for DH & I for the next 3 days at least :T I also chopped up a stale loaf so I have 2 bags of hm croutons in the freezer. I have found that if I use frozen hm croutons that I am less likely to burn them when I cook them
My F*tb*t is happy again :rotfl: Today I carried on with the last box from the spare room - I am making headway but very slowly. Dinner tonight was from freezer & stores - hm (almost beefless :rotfl:) beef & honey stew on boiled rice. The best that can be said is that it was OK

201 Carrier bag of rubbish from DH’s office sort out - Binned
DH picked up DSis after her 2nd night of sleep clinic - came home with some sort of machine & mask etc that she has to wear each night  She has told me that we might prefer the sound of her snoring :rotfl: as the machine is very noisy:(
Fox has just put in an appearancepractically came in the front door with a piteous begging face :rotfl: Just fed him/her with a hot dog sausage & some dog treats - I barely took two steps & he/she was eating
Cheerleading starts here
Working Mum, great idea :T Nice to ‘see’ a new faceHopefully you will pop in now & again
CAFCGirl, sorry to be the bearer of bad news
but I think decluttering is an ongoing ‘pleasure’ :rotfl: You need to look carefully - your home is DEFINITELY less cluttered :T You probably have space in cupboards & drawers
Your second round of decluttering will yield even more items out of the door
as you will look with fresh eyes & wonder how you missed it/them 1st time round :rotfl:
somerandom, Well Done :T almost at the 150 mark - a milestone :rotfl:
pixielottie, almost a month into the year & you are keeping up with your NON resolutions:T I think New Year’s Resolutions should be banned :rotfl: We put so much pressure on ourselves when we call our decisions ‘resolutions’
Perhaps we should call it ‘Forming new healthy Habits’ - bit of a mouthful, I know, but it seems to be working for you :T
Nannywindows, I bet you were keeping the replacement mugs for best, weren’t you :rotfl: Surprising how quickly baby steps get you to your destination
I did laugh out loud at the resolution of your illusion :rotfl: I won’t tell himif you promise not to tell my DH that he is my hero
:kisses3:
villagelife, sorry that you are in pain - please have lots of gentle virtual (((hugs))) Well Done on keeping up the decluttering :T
Ginmonster, dithering is good especially if it brings back happy memories& look you felt so guilty that you found something else to declutter :rotfl:
:hello: aimeemum, Welcome aboard the ‘Declutter Bandwagon’ :T Wow, you have been busynot only decluttering with a vengeance but looking after 3 smallies as well
If I wore a hat I would take it off to you :rotfl: We lurve new declutterers :T & I for one am looking forward to your tales of decluttering

chupachups4, ooh ParisI have only ever passed through (used to cross Paris on the Metro) or round Paris on the Peripherique. You are doing really well on building up your travel pot :T
MadamMim2013, You never need to feel guilty putting yourself 1stafter all if you buckle then who will take on everything you do
It sounds like you have two great DS’s
- not many who would mention no holidays for 8 years & just seem to take it in their stride. I am really pleased that you took two days for yourself
maybe a 3rd :rotfl: just to recharge your batteries :rotfl:
White_musk, I was exhausted just reading about your day :T let alone living through it :rotfl: Please make sure you take some time for yourself
Deni debt-free dreamer, I like it :T even your friend is helping you to declutter :T
Well done on the sales, ScarletRibbons :T Items out, pennies in
Wanna Bee Free, I quite agree with you - better to revisit rather than regret. Do you find shredding cathartic? I try to get quite a bit together & then have a small session of shredding
Cherryfudge, Well Done on the decluttering & cleaning & tidying :T. Deep cleaning always takes so longbut is always well worth it
Whenever I knit, even if it is just a scarf, I never spot the mistake two rows later - it is always 22 rows later  The thing is, regardless of whether anyone else would notice or not, I always unpick & redo
because I know I have made a mistake
Thank you for your approbation (the word popped into my head but I had to check the meaning) I hope your son had no long lasting effects - sounds like he was very lucky.
Nice to see new people joining us on our great Decluttering journey

Two boxes decluttered yesterday that had been bugging me, mostly as one was living on the floor of the bedroom. Much happier now they are sorted and everything has been put in its rightful home and/or CS/Binned.
Bag of clothes to CS yesterday, along with a bag of rags and a lovely cushion that just didn’t ‘spark joy’ any longer. It’s getting less and less volume all the time, but it’s still nice to have things leaving the house. Also 5 bags animal waste went to the tip.
Lots of birthdays over the next few days, so I’ll be pleased to get those pressies wrapped and hoofed out of the house :-)
Intending on sorting through bedding today, though I only have 3 sets; just to ensure I don’t have excess old sheets etc harboured away.
It’s recycling bin day tomorrow and it can’t come quick enough..we are drowning in it!0 -
NOOOOOOOOOOOOO @ MrsSD say it isn't so?!
I think perhaps it's a lot to do with the fact that the clutter is still in the hoise . It's bagged and boxes up for donation but I don't drive so my plan is to call the BHF to come get it. I ordered their donation bags online and have done it before but part of me wanting to complete this giant round of fluttering first and then call them. Perhaps I should get rid of what's already bagged and celebrate the win first.... Call it ' half-time' in this match\battle...Wealth is not measured by currency0 -
Morning all declutterers
A few more toys have been put in the cs bag, including a roman sword, a bow and arrow and a large pot of marbles.... ( I wondered where mine went). A one legged robot has been binned. Today I shall declutter the ironing basket :rotfl:.
A quick question......
Does anyone know if there is a minimum amount of cs bags that would be collected ? I already have 3 filled ( 2 heavy ones with bric a brac/books, and 1 with clothes ) and none of our cs shops have nearby parking.
MrsSD my lips are sealed :silenced:
Happy decluttering :T.Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently0 -
Finally I took 6 items to the CS this morning and broke thru the 100 barrier
*100-105 a very nice Laura Ashley tin but wasnt used...just sat on top of the freezer

Small tea and biscuit tray-just sat in the cupboard
Smellie sets x 2
*106-107 t-shirts new x2 just sitting in a cupboard given away this afternoon
MadamMim I just wanted to say make sure you take time out for yourself. I've never had the best relationship with my mum, my brother is the favourite and she was quite cold when I was growing up. She would never address her issues and can lie through her teeth for the world. Now she is older she expects you to wait on her hand and foot and is very babyish when the carers come in even though she can do things but wont. It was our GP that stepped in for me and sorted out carers and other support.......his words were literally look after urself and ur DD and we will look after ur DM, bec she will destroy ur lives if not careful and he was right. Sometimes u need to step back and take a breather.....if u dont it will become destructiveDecluttering challenge 2023🏅⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
