Found a bar very near the Menin Gate & had a beer, then walked the 75 yards to join the crowds for the Last Post Ceremony. It was very moving & even the birds were silent. 300+ people of all ages & nationalities & you could have heard a pin drop. The ceremony was conducted by the South Staffordshire Regiment & we got to talk to a few of the soldiers. A reminder of the sacrifices made by so many to give us a brighter future.

The South Staffs was my Grandfather's regiment. :) I never knew him: he died in the 1950s, of measles I believe but his health was affected by his war experiences (WW1) as happened to so many.

I've done a little more decluttering today: a leaflet, 10 paper decisions and a jar of chutney (finished not binned but it had been around a while).

    New total 1651.

  • Am having trouble with arthritic knee the last few weeks although it feel as if I have twisted it too so have decided when I see doc tomorrow to put wheels in motion for surgery but when I was looking for paperwork on previous ones, I just cannot find any of it!!!! and as we clutterers know, I have not thrown it away. Whilst dearching I have found old paprwork for MS jobs from 2004 so will get rid of that so thats some good at least. I was trying to do some work on my PC to tidy it up and now cannot get onto Win 10 only the old Win7 but no internet. Of course all my files on 7 are old. Good job I have laptop but I cannot manage too well on that, have typed this 3 times and keep losing it. Feeling in pain and fed up but at least managed to de-clutter something, oh, and did washing too.

As it is a new season I went through my wardrobe again the other day and tried everything on. I gave away three dresses to a charity shop afterwards.:)

Oh yes, I recycled my old calendar as I ordered a new 2020 one and it's academic so it starts in September.

34/52 - 2 tops to the charity shop. I was going to leave them until I had more to take but decided that was too risky and I might keep procrastinating. 2 is better than 0.

  • Had my daughter visiting from Belfast so nothing was decluttered, except mountains of food!
I then saw an ad on freecycle -someone offering a pile of House Beautiful etc magazines. When I went to collect there were about 200 of them!!!!! So I've recluttered.
However, about 30 of them are ready to be passed on...

My cat, Tootsie, decluttered a mouse last week though :eek::rotfl::rotfl:

I have listed about 20 things on ebay, one sold already, that will be posted tomorrow.

Getting back to it next week with a vengeance, need to make a commitment if I am to declutter 300 items by Xmas

    Hi,
been waiting for a few things to collect, and can't track down my last post - sure I got beyond 250 so starting at 252 .
Counting when I've decluttered an area by sorting things and putting in the right place
253 -254 dolls cot (being kept as family heirloom) but wrapped in excess bubble wrap and put into cupboard (Had been taking up most accessible storage)
    255 - old phone to DD1
    256 -259 electronic declutter
    260 0 262 3 cake tins collected Freecycle
    263 - 273 tester paint pots
    274 - rubbish from cupboard
    275 - email sent
    276 - old pen out
    277 - 281 make up for CS
    282 - 283 paper clutter

Have a few other things on Ebay and Freecycle so hoping they will go.
Put a few other things in the right place so feel abit more organised.

Someone coming to put a few things right in the house, so will help me keep going and see improvements.
  • I have been away for a few days and I have just read back through the posts I missed. Well done to all the declutterers.

I have been staying with my brother who has clutter but seems to be having a clear out. I came back with a full size bookshelf with a full collection of books about the romans . Brothers special interest.

I knew it was going to happen so no shame, looking forward to properly studying a new and fascinating subject.:o

Since coming back we have emptied DD room, rolled up the carpet and have advertised on various selling sites. We have bought the floor boards and underlay to replace it but are going to repair cracks in the ceiling and repaint in the next few days before we lay it.

We cannot get into the spare rooms, incuding the Room of Doom. In fact the house is in a temporarily horrid mess. As soon as the floor is down and furniture moved in we can relax a little as I transfer all my supplies. Once done we will be starting on DD new room, the RoD, after her visit from uni. She is most happy that she is getting a bigger room.

So nothing out, 6 bags of books and a bookshelf in, but balance to be restored very soon.

I hope all your test come back OK MrsSD. HUgs to you and anyone else going through troubles with their health.:)

Thursday dawned bright & breezy with clear blue skies. Now for the bizarre accident that befell my 3 week old spectacles . Our room had the usual 2 single beds pushed together with single duvets. So went to bed, putting my spectacles on the bedside table. In the morning did my usual ablutions & got dressed without putting my glasses on. Went to put on my glasses but they were nowhere to be found :( Eventually found them in between the two mattresses - frame broken, missing screw but both lenses intact :T It would appear that when I woke up during the night, I threw off my duvet & it swept my glasses off the bedside table into the air & onto the mattresses. Obviously I didn’t notice so usual moving about etc - the result broken frame. This meant no visit to the museum, no buying of Belgian chocolates & a rather precarious descent down the marble stairs to breakfast ;) as I had no depth perception  Breakfasted, ascent of the marble stairs was OK back to our room. Packed & drove away from the hotel by 10:30, filled up with petrol at the first petrol station we saw (transpired it was also the cheapest :money: :T) Went straight to the cigarette shop (I received some freebies - 2 packets of crisps, a bag of cola bottles, a bag of soy bottles, 2 packets of 6 caramel bars & 3 lighters :p poor DH got nothing :p & then straight to the train. No relaxing lunch - Silver cloud we saved money :T Only had to pay an extra £12 to catch an earlier train. Short delay but train journey passed quickly as DH & I chatted to a 70 year old motorcyclist - left his wife at home while he went gallivanting :rotfl: The ride home was uneventful & quite speedy & we were home by 2:30 p.m. - 4 hours early :D. So nice to put on my old glasses & see clearly :rotfl: Large mug of coffee, unpacked bags & put away cigarettes + put a load of washing on. Then went into town to get some new frames - arrived at opticians 16:50 & out by 17:10 with lenses in new frame & only cost £25:00 :T Unfortunately I timed it badly - rush hour on the DLR :( - However my luck was in, only had to wait a couple of minutes & got a seat :D Home before 18:00 :j DH will be ordering several pairs of cheap glasses from one of the online retailers & we will put a spare pair in the bike & one in the wash bag for future trips :p Exceedingly lucky that it wasn’t one of our longer holidays :D I can cope with a few hours of poor vision but not days ;)

3338 - 3346 Two drinks cans, food can, glass jar & metal lid, 2 newspapers, cardboard packaging, booklet, plastic bottle - Recycled

Cherryfudge, sorry to hear about your grandfather - the effects of WW1 extended far beyond 1918 & then compounded by WW II. Unfortunately the world still hasn't learnt it’s lesson

Oh, whmf00001 you are in the wars :( You do know that you will find the missing paperwork in the last place you look :rotfl: but the silver lining is that you will do lots of paperwork decluttering :rotfl:

    Very organised Wednesday2000 - Well Done :T
