Really apreciate the cheerleading, makes me feel as if I am a good girl and at my age that does not happen often, usually the old "oh Mum, what do you think you are doing?"

Hello all, I'm back with a list mostly comprised of things from my Mum's old place where DH and I did some charity runs of stuff that had been deemed shop-worthy. (I find it hard to tell if something is sellable, that phenomenon whereby people tend to overvalue things they have themselves).

My previous total was 1,234 and last week I did some cooking and clearing OOD food at home: 2 bags of potatoes into compost, 1 bag of sweet potatoes into soup, 1 opened jar of red Thai curry paste (ancient) down the sink, another into the soup. Bananas into banana bread. Rancid-smelling butter dish into bin. (New total 1,241).

Okay - big list from Mum's house!

    Paper decisions - 28
    Random rubbish (binned) - 24
Batteries (I discovered they not only go out of date, they go 10 years out of date) - 50
    Donations (I hope someone benefits):
    5 cushions in covers
    5 empty cushion covers
    2 trays
    reel of braid
    shirt
    clock
    2 ash trays
    wine basket
    lady's suit in suit cover
    6 ornaments
    bedspread and 2 pillow cases
    4 photo albums (empty)
    cutlery drainer
    flask
    9 magazines
    29 books
    8 photo frames
    3 pomanders
    badge
    tote bag
    laundry basket
    3 wall scrolls
    memorial light
    juice jug
    box of tights
    vase
    pair of shoes
    sock putter-on
    3 pictures
    jigsaw
    3 pairs bathroom scales
    9 hairclips
    bangle
    brush and comb set
    hairbrush
    electric whisk
    tea cosy
brass ash tray on a stand
    poncho
    2 scarves
    4 pillow cases
    duvet cover
    valance
duvet cover and 2 pillow cases
    2 dresses
    skirt & blouse set
    skirt & jacket set
    8 soft toys
    3 mugs
    3 decoupage kits
    3 frames for the above
    dressing gown
    table tennis net
    glasses case
    jar opener
    hen-shaped china egg holder
    tea towel
New total 1,399 - I hope. Near enough even if my addition is a bit strained with all the lists I've just been through.

I've also brought home a couple of bits to sell or give away but they only count when they've gone.

I think it's hard when we have planned to sell something but don't - I feel I've fallen short somehow, but I know there have been times when I've been glad of getting something cheap or free and I think a sofa bed could make an enormous difference to someone who has nothing of their own - so well done for making someone's day (and probably giving them a better night's sleep too).

Eventually getting a chance to update...some great decluttering going on in this thread.

Did a trip to recyling centre / dump. 2 bags rubbish and 3 boxes of recycling. Also dropped of 3 large bags of clothes and toys to charity shop.
Took into my kitchen and cleaned out cupboards etc. I got rid of all old plastic lids and boxes that did not have a companion. I have a habit of picking up storage jars in charity shops ... got rid of a few of them etc. Feel as if I am now making progress. Was out this morning so didnt have time to do anything...came home and in 15 mins the kitchen dining area was sorted. I know this is because I have less stuff.

So I am going to keep on going through one room at a time ... and chuck whats not needed.

Afternoon MrsSD and fellow declutterers, the decluttering stories on here are inspiring and is helping me to focus on the next task ahead to decide (with my daughter) on the stuff from the attic which will make its way to our daughter's redecorated & recarpeted room. Completion date is end of this month allowing for decorators holidays. For the record today I took to the tip our daughter's baby A B C patterned lampshade and a battered thermos flask which now appears to be leaking. More updates to follow at the beginning of next month.

I agree that failing to sell something, or even get it on the selling pages is disappointing, but actually the worst thing it does is sit there and look at you telling you you are a failure. At least once gone it is gone. Soon forgotten as the space it took up magically appears. :) I also feel that letting something like that go is an achievement in itself. Take it from a hoarder who know :D
