Really fascinating hearing everyone's thoughts around the roots of attachment to stuff / hoarding etc. I heard this quote from a TED Talk I listened to a while back " "Stuff gives us the illusion of permanence". it made a lot of sense to me - I don't think it's the only reason but its certainly a factor in some cases.
Oooh, that really resonates with me! I will have to go and think about that and seek out that TED talk.0 -

I read something about squirrels that said they aren't all that bright and tend to forget where they bury nuts. I think their hoarding might be to do with that!0 -

1. SMALL TASKS WILL BE DONE ASAP
2. I WILL LEAVE A ROOM TIDIER THAN WHEN I ENTERED
3. KITCHEN WILL BE LEFT CLEAN & TIDY EVERY NIGHT
4. WHEN DEALING WITH CLUTTER I WILL USE ‘Daisy1571’s idea of ‘WHAT WOULD I DO WITH THIS ITEM IF IT WAS SOMEONE ELSE’S ?’
5. IF I WAS STARTING FROM SCRATCH, WOULD I BUY THIS?
6. BE LIKE A POSTAGE STAMP - STICK TO ONE THING UNTIL YOU GET THERE
Lovely sunny day but chilly, so made the decision not to make my F*tb*t happyI decluttered several programmes from my planner & then decided I should do some physical decluttering
So emptied, cleaned & sorted two more wall unit cubby holes
I now only have 3 visible cubby holes to sort. I also tidied out my large footstool - so all in all I am satisfied
;)
344 - 349 Non recyclable Plastic tray & 2 Plastic lids, plastic pot & lid, small bag of detritus, bag of rubbish from DSis - binned

CompletelyLost, Well Done for ‘channelling’ a bad mood into cleaning & decluttering productivity :T
chupachups4, Well Done on more pennies in the travelling pot :T Shameabout the coat hangers- but you tried
Wow nannywindow - just wow 😲 Serendipity strikes :rotfl: a CS bag through the door :T. Did you need a crowbar :rotfl: Did DH keep any photos or was it that he just wanted to feel involved in the decluttering :rotfl: ‘Not quite so daunting’ I really like that
whmf00001, didn’t mean to make you blushWhy is it made so hard to do the right thing? Well Done on planning decluttering :T Hope you have an enjoyable lunch tomorrow
I am in awe Gem-gem - that really was a massive cooking session :T:T DH & I will pop in tomorrow - we love fruit cake :rotfl: How long had you had the empty space in the freezer before DH filled it? I also admire you for getting rid of broken items immediately :T:T
sweetpea26, RL has a habit of getting in the way of decluttering but Well Done on getting rid of 4 bags of stuff :T I hope you have an enjoyable break & come back fully recharged & ready to enter the ‘Decluttering Arena’ once again
Well Done Barny1979 :T through the 100 barrier :T The 2nd 100 beckons :rotfl: & you are cantering towards it at a fast pace :T:D
Well Done on the decluttering somerandom :T I really like that quote - hoarding is a very complicated trait - we could probably spend hours discussing it :rotfl:
Thank you retiredinfrance, what a lovely thing to sayKeep up the good work on the decluttering & the saving money
Hoarding really is a fascinating topic . I am mightily jealous of your RED squirrel
we might be entertained by the grey squirrels but I would love to see a red squirrel
I am with you on the newspaper disposal - I pick up freebie papers just to do the sudoku & cryptic crossword :rotfl: way too depressing to actually read the contents
Fire Fox, I like it that you class deep cleaning as pottering :rotfl: when it is in fact a major part of the decluttering process - you have to have some empty spaces to be able to deep clean :T Five out, four in - you are still winning :T Of course, your ‘old’ room of Doom can be ‘temporarily’ used as storage space
Hermia, I watched a fascinating documentary about squirrels - a university in America managed to tag nuts so that they could map out where the squirrels buried them - apparently each squirrel buries up to 10,000 nuts & manage to relocate 80% of them on averageThe documentary also showed how persistent squirrels are when it comes to trying to get food :rotfl: regardless of the obstacles :rotfl:
Currently decluttering episodes of GoT - reminding myself of all the twists & turns before the final seriesI wish GRR Martin would hurry up & write the last book
I will love you & leave you - See you later

I read something about squirrels that said they aren't all that bright and tend to forget where they bury nuts. I think their hoarding might be to do with that!
I think that's why I keep buying pens and sellotape, etc, then find the ones that I already have!2021 - mission declutter and clean - 0/20210 -
Yay back on it after a little break to get other things done
Decluttered today were
A pile of tops that were no good for the charity shop so I put them in the clothes bank bin
Two pairs of shoes to the shoe bank
Five no longer needed cardboard boxes that my DD was keeping for posting items in have gone in the recycling
I'm getting ready to do my kitchen and in my kitchen I have two junk drawers plus an old ice cream container that is full of odd screws and picture hooks etc, yesterday I found a craft box with sections for beads which will be ideal for my screws,it will mean I can only keep a smaller amount but I will be able to see at a glance exactly what I have,it's also sa flatter but longer shape so will fit on the shelf where my screwdrivers and other house tools live
Any spare screws and nails that I have left I'm going to ask my local Men In Sheds group if they want them ,if not they will be chuckedOriginal Debt Owed Jan 18 = £17,630 Paid To Date = £6,510 Owed = £11,1200 -
Sorted out one of my present boxes and more of the items my mum decluttered to me. Managed to send the first parcel full of wool to charity this morning
*129-133 spare presentsx4 sent to charity (embarrassed to say I didnt even know I had a couple of them so they wouldn't have been of any use as spares when I didnt even know I had them!)
*134 unwanted Christmas present sent as part of an auction
*135-136 booksx2 dropped into the CS
Neutral items sent out=26
Hoping to parcel up and send out more wool tomorrow.........its not staying!Decluttering challenge 2023🏅⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

DD was looking brighter (still coughing a lot) and asked if we could go through her clothes (we've been watching Tidying Up with Marie Kondo and she loves it!).
One bin bag of clothes for CS
One bin bag of clothes for scrap
Everything sorted into categories and folded beautifully! Hoping to encourage her to start folding her own laundry (she's 8) but also expecting to do it myself. The danger is that OH puts some laundry away (rare) and puts everything back in the wrong places.
Regardless, it all looks lovely now and I can see what DD needs and doesn't need.Mortgage (Start Sep 2014)- £70,295/£0 - 100%
Overpayments - £48829.37 :j:j:j

You've got a secret weapon in DD - "Oh, daddy, didn't you know, that's not right, this is how it should be...". Somehow with my OH, I can't get away with saying he's less than perfect, but when DD says it, it gets taken on board!2021 - mission declutter and clean - 0/20210
