I have to know, did you fix the sofa or the stairs with the saw and hammer?

Well suffice to say the loft conversion we had years ago has made our stairs a little awkward to get around. So when DS1 turns up with a fabulous corner unit sofa my heart sank a little as the rooms upstairs are also not that huge.

The sofas were quite wide, but also had an ornate arm rest that proved to be the sticking point. so basically the saw and sledgehammer were used to reduce the arm rest and then (largely) with the offcuts we recovered the slightly rough edges. Its gone into the corner of the room and looks untouched so for £40 he got a comfy sofa and we had a load of fun

hello - just done my mid month budget checks, and generally fine. the fact all my bills go out month start and all my money comes in month end does mean that my predictions are a bit wild, but I have worked out if I only focus on the variable stuff it kind of makes sense. couple of big extra items this month, but they both represented a good deal so I splashed the cash now, and will catch up later from my DF

PS: a DF is not a dear friend its my discretionary fund - which is like an emergency fund, but with a but more slack - so the narrative is more like - "OMG if I don't have that fabulous 70% off sewing machine that's the last in the shop I am going to die" emergency sort of way - not in an actual the house has blown up actual emergency sort of way)

    anyway here goes:
    • Car looking good, not as much travel and no annual costs
    • Cash over budget but don't use much and so easily distorted
    • Clothes looking good trying not to buy any - just a pair of summer shoes for OH
    • Coffee looking high, but all OH teacher friends are out and looking to [STRIKE]party [/STRIKE]catch up over summer
    • Hobbies - over budget as OH got fabulously reduced sewing machine, but still over a hundred pounds
    • Entertainment looking very good, literally spent nothing having fun this month :A *warning *warning - may need to remedy that, but just a little
    • Grocery looking very good (for us) predicting under £700
    • Ironically although its holiday, we haven't actually spent anything on holiday, either day trips or annual costs, so that's a perfect £0
    • Kids have been a bit [STRIKE]more than usually [/STRIKE]expensive, for various reasons - but calming down now as some of their delayed pay cheques are now due - may even see some of it back if I'm lucky
    • Household costs are lower as well, as have been de-cluttering rather than restocking

busy day today, but of work, but of tidying. haven't been out the house though, except for various washing related chores

Steos - 2100 (its not that big a garden)
Veggie - Pleased to announce full on vegan day - soy milk with cereal, hemp milk with coffee and a store-cupboard challenge with beans and allotment vegetables from my OH allotment friends who cannot eat that many beans and courgettes :-)
NSD - but only if you exclude having to bail out DD2 who is haveing a battle with her ex landlord around the deposit
Weight - quite healthy but treats - Oreo style biscuits and 2 jam sandwiches

clean/fix - cleaned up another load of the clutter boxes that plague us - not quite enough for a tip run, but the bins are heaving

save/make - more parental help - spent the morning writing a polite but "sod off" type letter to DD2 letting agent suggesting that a reasonable retention was about £900 less or £150 each) - will keep you al posted on this one should be done by the end of the
save/make 2 - helped DD1 (who is trying to save with her BF to get a deposit for her house) to come up with a plan for using LISAs to maximise deposit over next 18 months - she's got her head screwed on tight <3<3
