Hi all
had a busy few months and took my eye off the grocery ball...DD now at uni so we have 3 rather than 4 most of the time.
Aiming for £300 for January. DH away next week so hoping to try more vegetarian dishes too! Noticed Sainsbobs have some online "Veganaury" recipes which look interesting.
I made dumplings just the other day! Love them in the winter.GC Feb 2019 (to 10th) £397.07/£3000 -
£6.85 so far on toilet rolls (where do they all go?!), greens for rabbits and a bottle of lime cordial to make the alcohol-free lager bearable (doing dry January). Today I will make a meal with tofu for the first time ever, can't wait to see my family's reaction, not expecting it to be positive!:rotfl:0

:rotfl::rotfl:my family are the same. I tried tofu and quorn before and there was almost a riot. Sorry to all vegetarians and vegans but I did try. So without actually letting on to them I am trying to have at least one night a week meat free. They haven't cottoned on yet so ssshhhh
Anyway, first spend of the year. Went to Aldi. Took basket rather than a trolley and managed to keep spend to £24.13/£250. Not too bad. Fruit and veg that will do us until after weekend.
Got slow cooker on with soup for lunches and am making huge pot of spag bol for dinner. Hopefully can freeze enough for two other nights as well. We will see how it stretches5 Year plan. April 2020 to June 2025- CC and mortgage free by time I'm 60
Currently CC £23,674.36 /£14,895.41/£14315.42
Mortgage £28,214.65/ £26,254.71/ £25,746.43
By end 2020 I want CC at £ 19,000.00.
By end 2021 I want CC at £10,000.000 -
@Wentthedaywell and @selloptape thank you for the heads up about the savings link: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5936218/the-save-12k-in-2019-thread. I'm going to join up for the year.
Today I spent my first amounts in the grocery stores but not too much just yet.
€2.86 at the halal store for ground beef and two chicken leg quarters.
€1.05 at the halal store for cilantro and a packet of penne.
€6.47 at Carrefour for bananas for OH and a couple blocks of cheese.
I'll add the cilantro to the soup I made yesterday and with the penne I made macaroni and cheese in my Instant Pot. The latter used up some of the frozen spinach, the ends of two sets of cheddar and some of the older milk. Later tonight I'll use some milk to make some oatmeal breakfast bars to snack on the rest of the week. Hopefully that'll finish it.
TOTALS SO FAR:
€10.38 / €350.00

Both Delhaize and Lidl are having stock up sales in my country/area this week but honestly? I don't really care about any of the stuff they have on sale. It was weirdly liberating to just say "MEH." to everything I saw in the weekly circular and decide not to visit either store. I kept reminding myself we're moving country at the end of the month so we need to use up all the stores we have anyway. The toiletry pantry is full with deodorants, body washes, mouthwash, etc. The regular pantry still has tomato sauces and lots more. I think we should have a "Going away, come take our crap Open House." :rotfl:0 -
First spend of the month £4.50 at the corner shop on 2 packets of fish fingers. We've got some kids due over for tea and didn't have time to get to a bigger shop. We shouldn't need anything else for the rest of the week though as we have enough leftovers for a few days' meals for the 3 of us and the freezer is full to bursting so it's time to start using all that up.
£4.50/£1200 -
Well just back from my first shopping trip of 2019 and l'm pleased to say l stuck to my list. Total spent £21.30/200 onwards and upwards xCount down to retirement 20230

My family are the same, the boys especially seem to eat toilet rolls! :rotfl:
NSD again today, helped by me studying (so much to catch up on). Visiting friends tomorrow so will have to buy something little to take as a gift and take some snacks so we aren't tempted to stop in McD's on the way back. I have to take my son to the hospital Friday for his appointments so will have to pay for parking whilst we inevitably wait for hoursplus his treat of a cup of coffee from Costa, an expense I could do without but he really struggles with his anxiety (he has autism) and it gives him something nice to focus on. So much to do before we all go back to work and school on Monday
GC 2023 June £72/500 NSDs 1/100 -
Eeeek! £83.73 gone already! I needed a few bits & bobs from the supermarket but decided to take my trolley & stock up on the things that will make me feel better during my next round of treatment, which starts tomorrow. Unfortunately that's things like olives, artichokes, poppadums, fruit juices that don't contain citrus, etc. which don't come cheap. Of course, now I think about it I could (should) have bought the tinned/bottled equivalents, which would have been cheaper. I need to remember that next time...
However I also picked up a number of good special offers for the storecupboard, as I had the trolley. Hopefully we can keep going for a couple of weeks with minimal topping-up of fruit, veg & bread...Angie - GC Aug25: £207.73/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0 -
Spent £28.59 today in Lidl but have decided to ‘charge’ the wine and crisp money to my pocket money fund as DD and DH wont be able to enjoy the spoils, so that’s £16.41 to groceries - £163 left. Need to get broccoli and yoghurt tomorrow - Lidl shelved were half empty for some reason.0
