  • Bought mum a couple of bits yesterday and she got me a few today so think we're calling it quits so I am on £6.80/£40 for the week.
    Read my diaryHere :)
  • Hi, could I join please? We are facing an enormous VAT bill to pay at the end of the year, I'm trying to make all the savings I possibly can!!

I'm a stay at home mum to two toddlers, DP works full time. He has zero interest in cooking/ shopping/ budgeting but doesn't seem to appreciate that all these things need doing! I took him food shopping today so he could see exactly what I buy in a typical shop, he was very bored but perhaps he will appreciate next time not to eat TWO meals in one sitting (two enormous ham sandwiches followed by pasta for lunch!).

We're also both trying to lose a bit of weight, hopefully more careful planning with help with that too.

Off to log my first receipts on my spreadsheet!
Finally debt free!! March 2018 :j

    Hi guys
Spent nothing today. Lunch was a lonely piece of battered fish for OH and scampi for me with what was left of a bag of frozen veg with salad cream instead of tartar sauce. Then tea was a roasted pork chop each with cauliflower and Brussels sprouts and gravy. Then frozen raspberries with half a yoghurt each cos I only had one left. Cleared space in the freezer for Thursdays shop.
I really enjoyed all of today’s food. It was the first day I’ve actually felt hungry for over a month. Time to get control of my food intake again.
I’m back at work tomorrow so I’ve got a small pack of chicken defrosting for tomorrow but I’ve not decided what to do with it yet. I’m determined not to spend anything though.
Good luck for the month guys

  • Hi, I've just discovered this thread via the "Save £12k in 2019" one. I've spent £450 on groceries in December however i was entertaining for a solid week over Christmas. Just added up my spends and was like yuk all those pops to the shop add up! Put me down for £250 for Jan then i can then work out a normal month and take it from there. I plan on going back to packed lunches got a little wayward in December with hectic work schedules. like the inventory idea for the freezer /stores definitely going to do that as they are pretty full.

My first NSD of 2019! Thankfully, we still have quite a bit of food left over from Christmas so I'm hoping the next few days will mainly be using up that. Going to go through the cupboards and fridge freezer tomorrow and sit down and do a meal plan around what we have left. Also planning to try Mr A for our weekly shop at the end of the week (with a list ) and see if we can save some money there as opposed to Mr T. Happy New Year everyone x

  • Hello, I've just discovered this thread via the "Save £12k in 2019" one. I've spent £350 on groceries in December (and I wasn't even entertaining!) which is ridiculous for a single person. I've got a well stocked freezer though.
@Wentthedaywell or anyone else, where is that "Save £12k in 2019" saving thread located, please? I think I’d like join.

It’s so exciting to see all new faces signing up and participating in the grocery challenge! :j Welcome again to everyone. This is such a helpful group of folks to bounce ideas off them, get help, get recipes and keep yourself on track. It makes minding your money fun. :)

Today was a NSD for me because all the grocery stores were closed where we live. I made a pumpkin, red bell pepper and red curry paste soup in the InstantPot today. Even with the coconut milk it was a bit thin so I added in several sets of quick cooking yellow lentils to bulk it out. For my portion I cooked some shrimp I seasoned with Indian curry and added that to the soup. Delicious. Tomorrow I'll likely buy some cilantro to add to the soup and round it out.

    TOTALS SO FAR:
    €0 / €350.00
    1 / 12 NSD

Have a good night and happy new year, all!
  • Will be the first spends today from my grocery budget so should give some indication as to how the month will go. I will be making a list as l have a tendency to randomly add things to my basket using the just in case or that looks nice and the ever popular that's a bargain mentality.

Please can I join :) Trying to clear the last of my cc and save for our wedding this year.
Our January budget is £250 for 5 of us.
    £2 Savers club £0/£150
    1p a day £/
  • Checking in with £22.18/500 for January as Oh wanted a joint of meat for yesterday and inevitably bought more bits! He back at work now so I need to make sure I'm doing all the shopping myself.
Unfortunately going to need to spend again today as I need toothpaste and washing up liquid and some apples.
Determined for it to be all.

Chilli tonight, braised beef tomorrow with veggies using the leftover roast beef, pizzas on Friday, salmon on Saturday. I have all the stuff for these meals so will see how far I get. I guess I may need fruit and veg but the money situation is looking dire post Christmas so need to be very careful.
  • Hmm £4 spent on ready meals, not a great start! But it was New Year's Day so I'll let us off and try not to do it again :p:rotfl:

    £4/£200
