Lovely idea for a challenge, Gem-gem:T. I know I'm late to the party (as usual) but can I join in for what's left of the year please?

I'm not saving for any particular purpose or aiming for any specific total. Now I'm finally debt free (and what a long slog it was getting there:eek:) I just want to be a saver instead of a spender:j. I've been using my contactless debit card for most of my spending but am going to have to go back to good old-fashioned cash again if I want to find any £2 coins.

Before I had debts I used to pop £2 coins into a pot and it was amazing how quickly they added up. When I was really skint I was scratching round for every coin I could find just to manage day-to-day living:o. If I ever came across a £2 coin in those days I felt I'd won the lottery:rotfl:

Just a query about why people mention specific coins, such as Brunel or Shakespeare Tragedies.. I know some have a higher monetary value than the £2 but what do people do with them? Sell them on eBay or something?

    Welcome Noella,
Welcome to the savers club. Have been assigned no 41.
    Congratulations on becoming debt free.
We mention the types of coins because some of us collect the different types, so it is good to see what are out there.
Some are more valuable then others - due to the circulation numbers. Some people do sell them but I don't.

Three two pound coins obtained today. All plain.
Also received another coin - it is a new one for me - woo hoo! It is the Great Fire of London. Into a separate pot it went with all my other saved types of coins.

Finally found one - plain but diligently potted for safe keeping. Haven’t seen a ‘special’ one for quite a while now! Hubby can’t find any either. Well done everyone on your own collecting.

Wow, another two today, one of which was from hubby :j. Both plain but that's fine with me - they all count. All welcome and safely potted.

  • You're all doing well, unlike me:o. I signed up for a NSD challenge this month and madly decided to go for 20 NSDs. Unavoidable spends like bills are exempt and I tend to do most of my big weekly grocery shop (also exempt from challenge) by debit card. I'm not giving myself much scope to do anything that might result in 'change' am I? My £2 pot still sounds pretty empty when I shake it:(.

I had the same problem when I was doing the NSD challenge. I got round it by swapping coins with friends and family.

I've often thought of doing the NSD challenge, but have never gotten round to it. This year I'm completing a household expenditure sheet (tried it last year but was not totally focused - still a useful exercise as a basis for this year though) and keep every single receipt for entering, including receipts for taking my cash out of the bank. It's quite worrying how many little shops I do each week . That needs to stop as I can clearly see where my money is going!
