Can I ask, why did you ask for advice when you had no intention of taking it.
Most workplaces have someone like you, and no doubt you frequently complain that others are promoted ahead of you and that management pick on you. Refuse, accept, it’ss All the same to people here but the advice was to help you, not your boss, and you are foolish to take the attitude that you have.0 -
OP - I think you seem upset - when your boss is actually being nice
Do your normal hours then. Stay long after everyone else has gone..and don't moan about it..but if your unreasonable stance means other people have to stay to lock up, prepare to be very unpopular
Job done
A lot of pple want to get home as early as possible on christmas eve, to go and enjoy time with their family - what your boss is suggesting is completely normal.
We are going in early - get done early. Nice resultThe opposite of what you know...is also true0 -
Apologies, I have only just woken upSummerSunshine2 wrote: ». . . so why make stupid comments?0

I’ve just read the comment about you being new to work, so will give you some advice in the form of an anecdote.
My wife works in banking, where you can get very significant year-end bonuses, and can also progress rapidly up the firm.
Most staff go the extra mile for her, and the team tend to be well looked after at bonus time. One guy was different, he did 9-5, always left for lunch, and would leave critical work unfinished if it was time to go home.
At year-end most people got bonuses of 100-200% of their fixed pay. When this chap’s meeting came, he was thanked for his work, given a hand shake, and wished a merry Christmas
He was very, very unhappy, as he’d been counting on the bonus, and pointed out he had done all that his contract covered. My wife agreed, and told him that he’d also been paid all that his contract specified, and always would while he worked for her.0 -
I would have thought by now that most businesses have published their opening hours to their clients/public so it could be that no phone calls should be expected after this time.....hence the OP will be paid to sit twiddling their thumbs.
Of course the compromise could be OP rocks up when they want, the manager sends them home when the business shuts & the OP only gets paid for the hours worked0 -
We have a chap like that at our work Farmer Johnson.
He works to the letter, makes sure he leaves dead on time even half way through dealing with an urgent, no matter if it has massive negative immediate consequences
He didn't get his year end bonus last year and won't be again, and no wage rise along with the rest of the staff
We have never heard the end of it to be honest. He was counting on his too. I wonder what it is with people who rely on bonusesThe opposite of what you know...is also true0 -
OP I know exactly what you mean about not wanting to start at 7am. I had a job once where that was necessary & I lasted 3 days, by which time I was dead on my feet. Couldn't sleep & couldn't wake up either - I certainly wasn't what I would consider safe to drive the 10 min commute. I liked the job & liked all the people, but my internal clock just did not work like that.
Please get back & let us know how you got on.
In answer to your question I suspect that there is a part of your contract which has "needs of the business" in it & this will cover what he wants you to do. I don't remember anyone else mentioning this, have I missed that? Pity - it would seem to me at least to be important.0 -

Waking up early to be miserable all day, to go home and be tired but not wanting to nap - how is that being nice?
You don't get it do you? He is not offering you reduced hours because you said he couldn't do that. He is offering a way to leave work earlier than your normal finish time, I'm guessing to miss a lot of the additional traffic that will be on the road, but still do your contracted hours.0 -

I suppose some people just don’t get how it works.0
